MARRIED 40 YEARS — Marvin E. and Leatrice (Gardner) Rapp, Milford, were married March 28, 1943. at the Milford Christian Church and will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with a family dinner in Fort Wayne. Rapp, employed by Fairmont Homes in Nappanee, and his wife have four daughters: Mrs. Jay (Janice) Pippenger, Mrs, Roger (Judy) Kochersperger, Mrs. Kent (Gloria) Mishler and Mrs. David (Carolyn) Elliott: and six grandchildren.

'Salt dough' program for Columbians The Columbian Reading Circle met Monday evening, March 28, at the home of Fran Miller. The meeting was called to order by president Margaret Brooks. A variety of roll call reports were given by the 13 members and three guests, Peg Doty Campbell, New Haven; Fran Miller; and Dianne Fulp, Milford. The president gave a report on the recent Federated Club convention held at Oakwood Park, Syracuse. Kate Doty introduced Mrs. Miller who gave a demonstration on “Salt dough” for making decorations. Her topic was “Decorating your home with what you have in your home. ” During the business meeting, Dianne Fulp was voted in for membership. Betty Tobin announced that the book discussion will be given on April 25 at the home of Eudora Hurd. Refreshments were served by Inez Beiswanger and Mrs. Doty. HH Jb jBB 1 JUNE 4 WEDDING — Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Baumle, r 1 Leesburg, announce the engagement and impending marriage of their daughter, Martha, to David Sauli, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Sauli, r 2 Leesburg.* The bride-elect, a graduate of Wawasee High School, attended Parkview Methodist School of Nursing and Ball State University and is employed as a registered nurse at the Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. The bridegroom-elect graduated from Warsaw High School and will complete his studies in computer science at BSU in August. A June 4 wedding at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Warsaw, is being planned. The sports-minded miss will find some of the better tank tops feature built-in bras. Here are a few tricks with accessories that will spruce up at the same time, enlarge one’s wardrobe. Scarves of wool and silk dress-up sweaters and blouses. A contrasting silk bow can be added to a silk blouse. Use a gold stretch or colorful braided belt to add glamor to a simple dress. Choose a plaid taffeta or velvet vest to complement a solid blouse and skirt.

HONORED AT BANQUET — Supportive staff of the Lakeland Community School Corporation was honored at a banquet Tuesday evening, March 29, at Wawasee High School. Following the meal Mrs. Philip (Evelyn) Fawley and Mrs. Louis (Paulene) Firestone were honored for their years of services. Mrs. Fawley has been the school corporation's bookkeeper for the past 25 years. She began with the school system in August 1958 before consolidation. She and her husband, Philip, have one daughter Nancy who resides in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Fawley remarked "Unless Reagan comes up with a good social security system or the green Pinto breaks down, I’ll be here for a couple more years.” Mrs. Firestone, who is retiring, has been with the school corporation since 1968. She started in the Wawasee Cafeteria where she has served for 15 years. Her husband. Louis, retired as corporation maintenance man in January 1981. She is the mother of seven children, Martha Yurger: Jerry: Tom: Mary Jo Lundy; Peg Smith: Gary: and David: and has 14 grandchildren. Mrs. Firestone stated “Two years ago we bought two rockers. I'll sit in my rocking chair and rock my life away. But if you know Louis Firestone, I’ll be"busy taking care of him.” The program for the evening was presented by Vern Zercher. social studies teacher at Wawasee. who showed slides on the Lincoln Heritage Trail. Meals for older Americans

Meals for Older Americans are served each day at the following locations: The Scout cabin at Crosson Park, Syracuse; the Pierceton Community Building; and the Retired Tigers center, 320 W. Main, Warsaw. Meals for Older Americans is for persons 60 years or older and Apple Festival plans blossom “This year, we want a real community effort for the annual Nappanee Apple Festival,” said Bobbie Wilson, festival committeechairman. Several contests are scheduled for this year’s September week end, including the “Apple of Nappanee’s Eye,” a senior queen contest for women over 60 years of age, an “Apple Dumpling Contest,” for babies up to three years of age; and a tug-o-war competition. in addition to the contests, there will be food and craft booths involving various community individuals and organizations. All booth registrations must be received by May 1, and spaces are being filled, assured Mrs. Wilson. Anyone interested in reserving a craft booth should contact Donna Graff, committee secretary, at 773-2672; and food booth information may be obtained by calling Mary Miller at 773-4724. The next festival meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at the B & B Restaruant in Nappanee. All area residents are encouraged to attend.

is a chance to meet new friends, enjoy hot, nutritional meals. The sites are opened several hours each day including noon for programs. Meals for Older Americans is not associated with Welfare but is for the promotion for better health for the older population. Donations are accepted for the meals. The site directors request all persons planning on attending the meals to make reservations by 1 p.m. the day prior to attending. Phone 457-2631 for transportation and reservations. Extension clubs to hold croft workshop

The Spring Craft Workshop of the County Extension Clubs will be held in the new Justice Building on Wednesday, April 20, in the basement meeting room. The hours will be 9:30 a.m - 11:30 am., 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9p.m. The lessons will be on party favors and will include several items to be made for different occasions such as chicken scratching, a traditional craft on Gerda cloth. Also covered will be ceramic duck figures and techniques to use on them for reverse antiquing and dry brushing. All materials will be furnished for all classes. April 13 is the deadline for registration. For
