for the thrift shop, which is kept open about two days a week, using strictly volunteer help at all times. In 1966 the shop moved to a house belonging to Dorothy Smith at 131 West Pearl and in 1968 it moved to its present location, at a former Sinclair filling station on SR 13 (219 South Huntington) Syracuse. One ofthe biggest projects which the thrift shop paid for was in 1964, when the women assumed responsibility for the mortgage payments of the newly built parsonage. By the end of 1965, a total of $8,648.77 had been paid, thereby liquidating the mortgage. In 1973 the shop purchased its own property and in three and onehalf years that debt has been repaid. Presently the committee working with the shop is made up of 12 members. Jeanne Jones is in charge of the thrift shop committee. Lucille Peffley heads the marking committee, which works every Tuesday morning sorting donated items and marking them for sale. Items which are donated and not suitable for sale are sent to the Salvation Army, missions or relief organizations. Roberta Pittman is the schedule chairman and it is her job to schedule the volunteer help to work when the shop is open each week. Other committee members include Thelma Brinkman, Barbara Caple, Theta Cutter, Mary Fisher, Lois Allen, Marjorie Thornburg, Gloria Frew, Edith Brice and Lois Schleeter,

who is an honorary member. This past year the thrift shop has made contributions to the Lakeland Community Daycare Center and to the Kosciusko County Juvenile Justice Task Force Shelter Care Facility. The funds have also purchased an expensive copier needed at the church office, a tape recording system to record the Sunday services for shut-ins, the women are working on purchasing carpeting for the parsonage. They also have a small fund to help persons with temporary emergency financial need for such items as medication, bus fare or a place to stay for a night. A special project they have contributed to this year is for restoration of the Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Baltimore, Md. The church was built in 1884 as the centennial monument marking the organization of the Methodist Episcopal church in the United States. They hope to have enough contributions to restore the church in time for the Bicentennial Christmas Conference in 1984. The shop has many items for sale including dishes, books, puzzles, games, shoes, jewelry, small appliances and good used clothing. Donations of good usable items are urgently needed at the present time. Their hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

you envious of someone you know, or perhaps a public figure or TV personality? Os course, some people do seem to get all the “breaks," but you may never know of all the hard work and sacrifice that led up to them. Luck alone is seldom enough to sustain a position of success; there must be some talent and perseverance to back it up, or it will be very short-lived. We all have different assets and abilities, so both common sense and your House of Wbrship will advise you to stop wasting your time envying others and start developing your own potential, whether you are aiming for an audience or just one special person. Learn through your faith that God made us all individuals, with possibilities that will extend as far as we want them to go; so start thinking of the people you have envied, not as enemies, but as examples to follow.
“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourself, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you. Karen Mitchell to be speaker Karen Mitchell of Kolorama Design, Leesburg, will be the speaker at the Milford Women’s Christian Fellowship meeting March 12. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a m. at the Milford Fire Station and all women are welcome.
