50 YEARS — Lena Davidsen and Alyce Fuller were honored during special ceremonies Saturday afternoon with Indiana Grand Chapter awards of gold. The presentation was made by Fred Rowe of Lakeville, grand marshal of the Indiana Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Each of the 50-year members was pinned by her daughter. Mrs. Davidsen is the widow of the late John Davidsen and has been a devoted member of the chapter over the years. She is the mother of two children, Mrs. Bill

(Ellen) Monahan of Reading, Mich., a past matron of Kosciusko Chapter; and Donald Davidsen of Colorado City, Colo. Her late husband was a worthy patron of the chapter, serving with both Mrs. Monahan and Mrs. Free as well as other worthy matrons. Mrs. Fuller is the widow of the late Royce. Free Methodists to hold missionary conventions

Free Methodist churches in Warsaw and Winona Lake will host concurrent missions activities beginning Saturday, March 5, as part of a week of meetings designed to draw attention to the work of Free Methodist missionaries overseas. Serving as hosts for the conventions will be. the congregations of the Winona Lake Free Methodist Church, 9th and Chestnut in Winona Lake, and the First Free Methodist Church of Warsaw, meeting at Lincoln School, Lincoln and Main, Warsaw. Special speakers for the week include missionaries serving in four countries: Rev. Henry Church of Zimbabwe, Dr. Lionel and Phyllis Hurd of Burundi, Adleine Fast of Zaire and Rev. Chapter. Following the presentations a number of past matrons, including 57-year member Agnes Hurd and Edith Baumgartner, who returned from California for the occasion, spoke. Also present was Olive Bushong, a 50-year member of the Syracuse Chapter. A reception followed for Eastern Star members and residents of the home who attended the ceremonies. Cookies, punch and coffge were served.

VOLCANIC PROGRAM - With the use of a film and the expericncc he gathered from a trip to the Pacific Northwest last year, Don Arnold, right, shared his observations on the volcanic eruption of Mount Saint Helens with the Kiwanis Chib of Lakeland. North Webster, on Monday, Feb. 21. With the speaker is Jon Roberts. President of Lakeland Kiwanis. The film described and illustrated the stages of volcanic activity that took place on Mount Saint Helens from March to May in 1980. The crater at the top widened from 200 feet to one-third of a mile during March and early April. On March 30 volcanic ash was blown 18.000 feet in the air. In early May the northern side of the mountain top broke away carrying ice. mud. volcanic ash. and debris to a large area of Washington and Oregon. As the worst natural disaster in US history. Arnold observed that some of the clean-up work is still taking place in the rivers surrounding the area.
