Milford's Main street
YESTERDAY WAS the first of March and the “Lion” type weather usually associated with the day did not appear. Instead area residents enjoyed another spring-like day with warm temperatures. Spring fever continues to keep people busy out of doors with joggers now wearing shorts from time to time for their nightly runs. The farmers are in the fields and many housewives are reported to have started their spring housecleaning. Levi Beer was the first to report to us that he saw a robin. When robins arrive spring can’t be far behind. Spring, by the way, doesn’t arrive until Monday, March 21. JEAN TREESH now has tickets for sale for the spaghetti supper to be held March 18 in the community building from 4 until 7 p.m. The event is being sponsored by the Milford Area Development Council with Jennie Heckaman donating her time to chair the event. Workers are needed as are desserts. Persons willing to help in one way or another should contact Mrs. Heckaman or Mrs. Treesh. THIS WAS a week for letters, we received several. Jean Ankney (the former Jean Good) writes that she noticed on the editorial page the birthdate of William F. Cody. “His boyhood home,” she writes, “is about a 20minute drive from our house and is an historical sight. We often take guests there. Come out and we will go on a little tour. “Enjoy the paper as it is about the only connection we have with Milford anymore.” Jean and her husband, Richard, live in Eldridge, lowa. A SECOND letter is from L. M. Middleton of Santa Fe, N. M. This reader renewed his subscription for three years and writes, “I am 70 years old. skiing this year that we have had for a long time — 45 inches to IM inches at all New Mexico ski resorts. I still ski. but not as speedily as I used to.” AND, WE received a letter from Randall Dewart of Hickory, N.C. Dewart, also a former resident, is looking for information on the old Syracuse-Milford Railway that carried marl from Waubee Lake to Syracuse. He says the marl was used in the end product of the Medusa Cement Company for cement. He is hoping readers will respond to his request since he is presently putting together data for a book which he feels will be of interest Driver booked after mishap Thomas I. Welch, 31, Leesburg, was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail for driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license after a one-car accident Thursday. Feb. 24, just after midnight. The accident occurred on Armstrong Road, onehalf mile east of CR 100E. Damage was estimated up to $2,500 to the auto. Syracuse woman injured when tire blows Julie Yarbrough, 24. 300 Harrison Court, Syracuse, was injured recently when a tire on her auto blew out causing her to lose control of the vehicle. She suffered minor cuts to her arm and hand after her auto went out of control and struck a tree on CR 625E, south of 1400 N in Kosciusko County. She refused medical treatment for the injuries. to any — especially some of the older folks. Dewart needs such things as pictures, a map showing where it ran, the history of when it was built and when it ceased to operate, the names of people who operated it, warning signs along the tracks, what happened to the old engines, whether or not any part or parts of the equipment is in the hands of collectors and any

data that would make for reader interest. The more pictures, the better, he says. He has talked to many Wawasee Lake people who are trying to help and hopes others who really care about the past and the future will come to his rescue. Most of the town's old timers know about the old “dredge”
which is still visible (under water) in Waubee Lake. In fact, it’s a good fishin* hole on the south side of the lake. Persons with information should write to R. E. Dewart Collectibles at 209 10th Ave. NW, Hickory, N. C. 28601. PERSONS TRAVELING down Main Street this week can't help
but see the sign in the window at Doll's Decorating. It gives good luck wishes to the Warriors who will meet Tippe Valley in the opening game of the Triton sectional tonight. THE COTTAGE of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wuthrich at Waubee Lake is getting a new face. The cottage is being sided and is really looking sharp I
