REGARDLESS OF what you’ve read before the date of the MAD spaghetti supper is Friday, March 18. It would appear Jennie Heckaman told Jean Treesh it would be held on the 18th. Neither thought about the fact the dates in February and March are identical. Jean then told us the dinner would be held the 18th of February and as good reporters try to do we printed what we were told. A few minutes after The M-J was off the press last week we received a call from Jean who had just received a call from Jennie regarding the month of the supper. But the wrong date in our newspaper wasn’t the only problem the pair had last week. It seems we printed the wrong telephone number for Jennie. The correct number is 658-4883. And. if that isn’t bad enough an area daily said the supper was going to be held on March 28. So, mark your calendars now and volunteer to help. Die only thing that has changed is the Young Farmers to Las Vegas A group of farm couples in the 20 to early 30s age bracket will represent Indiana at a leadership conference of some 425 American Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers on February 13-16 at the Hacienda Resort Hotel. Farm Expo 'B3 slated for March 3
By MORRINE HALF ACRE Area farmers are in store for something unique in Kosciusko County when Farm Expo ’B3 takes place at the National Guard Armory in Warsaw March 3. Sponsored by the Kosciusko Farm Bureau Cooperative Association. Inc. The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a trade show featuring 40 different agricultural supply companies, all major name concerns, with each having exhibit space and their experts on hand to answer questions, give advice, and sell their products. “It’s sort of an agri-trade show,” explains George Green, general manager of the Kosciusko County Farm Bureau Co-op. “It’s a full day of information for farmers that want to grab up all the current information about agricultural products.” Ten of the 40 companies are going one step further than the exhibits and trade show in that they will be holding actual farm producer meetings complete with
University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, with an associate degree in marketing in May 1982. She will be moving to San Bruno, Calif., on March 10 and living in an apartment owned by Mrs. Spearman’s brother, Bill Green, who is a merchant seaman. While Joanna is there she will be looking for a job. Traveling with Joanna to San Bruno will be her mother who will be visiting with other relatives in that area. Bob will be left behind to “hold down the fort.’* The Spearman’s other two other sons, Pat and Tom, are married and have been away from home for quite some time. JOE POINTER. former Milford resident, called on Monday to relate the fact it was a day he remembered well with mixed emotions. It was at 6 a.m. on February 14, 1942, that Pointer and 20 other Kosciusko County men entered the armed forces during World War 11. ROBIN HAAB of Dewart Lake was recently elected historian of the Warsaw Affiliate of the Indiana Hairdressers and Cosmetologists. FIRST GRADERS in the class of Charlotte Hand were asked “What is Love?” and we thought
speakers, slide presentations and all the latest information on what ’s happening in production. Another event to take place in conjunction with the expo is the Kosciusko County Co-op’s annual stockholders meeting to be held at 12 noon. During this meeting >the 1983-84 directors will be named in addition to reports on the Co-op’s finances during the past year. The trade show will draw to a close leading into the final event of the day, an equipment auction. During the auction the Co-op will move some of the equipment no longer used and some inventory. The Kosciusko Co-op will have representatives on hand along with the displays and demonstrations of products it carries. The Co-op will also have its computer on hand for farmers to ■ observe and ask questions. The PIK program (Payment-In-Kind) will be discussed and recommendations will be made as to PIK products, how many acres to plant, and such things as fertilizers and chemical additives. “This is primarily a sales day,” says Green. The best prices of the season will be available to farmers during this day on orders placed and paid for through the Kosciusko Co-op. “Farmers won’t want to miss this event,” says Green adding, “Whether they wish to buy and get the best possible prices of the season or simply get information.” According to Green the event is like none other ever sponsored in the county with 40 representatives all gathered in one place at one time. The Farm Expo ’B3 in March promises to be a very important event for area farmers. Administration upbeat on nation's economy
By EDWARY THORLUND The Reagan Administration is definitely more upbeat on the economy now titan it has been for months. Several administration spokesmen are going so far as to say the recovery has begun. At least two others in high positions are sf ying recovery has begun. One is predicting this year to be the first of six good years! By chance, of course, if President Res gan runs and is elected again next year, he would serve another six, counting this year and next and four more of a second term. There are, however, also some who feel interest rates may not stay down, even if they continue downward for a time this year, if federal borrowing are as massive as they seem likely to be — if projected deficits aren’t reduced. Some institutions, basing policy on tha prospect, in part, are offering crustomers as much as eleven percent. and sometimes more, for multi-year deposits.
Budget projections are S2OB billion for FY 1983 (which ends September 30) and $lB9 and $194 billion for FY 1904 and FY 1985. These are huge deficits, the likes of which no other country has ever accepted before. Some in the Reagan Administration quietly expect the record to be better than today’s projections. One explained that
Public invited to county extension meeting
The public is invited to attend the annual meeting of the Kosciusko County Extension Service, Wednesday evening, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Justice Building meeting room, Warsaw. Jan Wojcik, associate professor of English at Purdue University, will be the speaker on the subject, “The Gumption of Indiana Farmers in Pictures and Words 1827-1983.” Professor Wojcik traces the attitudes of
Mr. Reagan had, in his messages to Congress, projected the worst possible scenario, partly because his 1982 forecasts had been overly-optimistic. Congress might refuse to accept these huge projected deficits and cut defense spending and raise revenue. And, it’s said, this would not surprise the White House.
Indiana farmers from the earliest settlements to the present day on such topics as the labor it takes to farm, the best way to use the land, the difficulties, of dealing with markets, in short on the gumption it takes to farm in Indiana. Agents will present short reports regarding various extension activities and five directors will be elected to the extension board.
