Vo-ed week opens classes to public A proclamation by Gov. Robert D. Orr has designated February 6 through 12 as the 16th annual Vocational Education Week. “Vocational Education: An Investment in People” is the week’s theme. During this week, Indiana and the Lakeland community will be involved in many activities to emphasize the importance of vocational education. More than 200,000 youth and adults in the state are enrolled in secondary, post-secondary and adult vocational education programs. In addition to the school programs, youth organizations in Indiana are designed to assist the student in developing leadership skills and community participation. Vocational education is a vital part of the total education picture in Indiana. The number of persons enrolled in some type of vocational training during the 1982-83 school year increased 65 per cent over the last 10 years. Vocational students enrolled in secondary programs pursue a regular high school cirriculum leading to a high school diploma and learn a valuable skill at the same time. Vocational education students who graduate from high school may go directly into a skilled job, take advanced technical study, enter apprenticeship or pursue professional college programs. Adults in vocational training may have doors opened to new occupations and new leyels of achievement and attainment. Post-secondary students receive training that prepares them for a career. Wawasee High School invites area citizens to stop in and look over the vocational program. All are welcome to visit any of the classes and educators will be glad to answer any questions. Mooo Stains from ballpoint pens can be removed by sponging the area with milk until the stain disappears. z-
