Office lab at Wawasee high
By PAT HUBER The Secretarial Office Education Laboratory class is available at Wawasee High School to seniors. & is a threeperiod block class that duplicates an office situation in the type of work done and in the type of machines used. The class is organized so that each dass mentor has a dtfferent work station and rotates every 10 days to a new station. These work stations are written from actual positions in companies in the community. The most recent station written was with Jean Stewart of Brock Manufacturing, Inc., in Milford. There are also stations from Chore-Time Equipment, Inc., Vega Corp., and Sea Nymph Boat Company as well as stations in legal, medical, dental, banking, and real estate. Since the students rotate to the various stations, they gain knowledge and experience in a variety of occupations. Along with the written stations, there is an office service work station where the student does actual secretarial work for the school and is trained by secretary Sue Kraft on the school’s Switchboard. To help better prepare the students for employment, speakers from the businesses visit the class and field trips are scheduled to various companies. The girls also “dress for the office” every Thursday. This helps them to better realize what is expected of employees and the importance of appearance. There is also a unit on job application during the year where several application forms are filled out, letters of application are written, and practice interviews are made. The businesses in the area and the business advisory committee members help by allowing the girls to go to the businesses for an actual practice interview. Also, the businesses represented by the members of the advisory con> • mittee have for the past two years taken the girls for lunch during National Secretaries Week, which gives the girls an opportunity to talk with various
