Quilting club meets at Mason's Catherine Hibschman and Carolyn Keriin, Syracuse, were guests at Lakeland Quilting Club’s Christmas meeting held December 13 at the home of Miriam Mason, Webster Lake. As guests arrived they were served punch, cheese and crackers. Roll was called by Jessie Wainscott Items made in the seminole patchwork pattern were displayed. Iney Included: eyeglasses cases, note book covers, Christmas ornaments and decorated hand towels The ladies learned the Seminole technique at the last meeting. Dresdin Plate and Bears Paw patterned quilt blocks, for the Quilt Magazine contest, were displayed and photographed There was one bears paw and 15 Dresdin plate blocks. Pam Kennedy took orders for the book. "Scraps Can Be Beautiful" by Jan Halarimson. A potted plant and sympathy card were sent to Whanita Gebhart Mrs. Kennedy will be chairman of the by-monthly newsletter to be published by the Lakeland club She will be assisted by Arlene Sloan and Esther Black. The club is also planning a library for the circulation of quilting magazines and books Ann Beemer will serve as Librarian

Plans were discussed for a quilt to be made in the near future and used for a hind raising project. Estaleen Harney noted that her quilting classes are now studying color coordination. A holiday buffet luncheon of carry-in salads was served at noon. A large selection of Christmas cookies was served as dessert and recipes exchanged. Following lunch a gift exchange of handmade, quilted items was enjoyed. Mrs. Kennedy played Santa. The next lesson is scheduled for January 10 at the home of Mrs. Mason. Mrs. Harney will teach a lesson on quilting stitches. Pythions elect new officers A letter pertaining to the reporting of the year’s activities was read by Georgia Cormican during the December 13 meeting of North Webster Pythian Sisters. A committee was appointed to investigate the possibility of serving dinner at the Legion Hall the day of the Super Bowl football game. New officers were nominated and elected. Ethel Engle placed high and Mrs. Menzie placed low. Mrs. Menzie will host the January meeting of the Past Chiefs Cub. Tippecanoe club has yule meeting Edna Lawson and Jean Hamilton served as assistant hostesses on December 15 when Tippecanoe Township Club met in the home of Delores Weyler. As guests arrived they were served wassail and snacks. The business session opened with Dot Kurth giving several Christmas readings Ruth Mickley led group singing of "Silent Night." Roll call was answered by 36 ladies including two guests. Rite Slankard and Marilynn Hamilton. Dorothy Thornburg read minutes of the last meeting, letters from the United Way and American Heart Association and a note of appreciation from Harriett Williamson. Mrs. Thornburg also read a letter from the County Fair Association requesting decisions on the future operation of the association. Dues were paid. May Grodrian gave the treasurer's report. Estaleen Harney was asked to serve on the cultural arts committee for the next three months. An evaluation sheet for the Christmas bazaar was prepared. The group voted to serve a future Presidents’ council luncheon and Christmas bazaar luncheon Mrs. Weyler reported on the cards and flowers committee. It was noted that Harriett Williamson is now at home and would welcome phone calls and visitors. Items were taken to the meeting to fill charity baskets. Catherine Bause is chairman of the charity committee. A carry-in dinner was served at noon. Prayer was led by Mrs. Thornburg. Mbs. Mickley was named as chairman of the nominating

Saide Reynolds will be hostess for the January meeting. -NWBechtold becomes Northeast-Lindsay A South Whitley baaed company, Fox Products, purchased the Bechtold Soft Water Service during the first week of November at a receiver’s sale, changing the company name to Northeast-Lindsay Water Service. Lindsay to America’s largest manufacturer of water softening equipment and will provide technical assistance to the Northeast-Lindsay group for better customer service. Northeast-Lindsay represent atives will contact all Bechtold customers notifying them of the ownership change, according to Alan Fox, president of Fox Products. Fox also announced the appointment of Steve Powell as general manager of the new business and a revision of the organizational structure including salt delivery, expansion of the tank route and regular maintenance of softeners. All phone numbers and office personnel in South Whitley and North Webster will remain the same with rates also remaining stable or in some cases lowered The Northeast-Lindsay Water Service will serve a territory from Goshen to Fort Wayne to Huntington to North Manchester to Warsaw. A new location for a South Whitley sales office and salt delivery service is being sought by the newly organized company. Addair booked Ricky Addair, 17. Syracuse, was booked in the Kosciukso County Jail on a bond revocation. Addair is awaiting trial on theft charges. He is being held on $2,000 bond

Barbara Woodring earns doctorate from Ball State

Barbara Woodring, professor of nursing at Grace'CoUege, has been awarded the docwr of education degree from Ball State University after successfully defending her dissertation entitled "The Analysis and Comparison of Associate Degree Nursing Programs of Learning. 1951 to 1981.” Rallie McGuire receives award Rallie McGuire. Dr. Woodring has been the cornerstone of the foundation of the nursing program at Grace College. The popular major enjoys a waiting list of students desiring to enter the program. Nursing alumni are serving with distinction in the Warsaw-Winona Lake community as well as around the nation. Dr enjoys the additional distinction of being the first and only female faculty member in the history of Grace College to receive an. earned doctorate. Dr. Woodring graduated from Grace College in 1966 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing aqd holds a masters in nursing from Saint Francis College and a master's degree in adult education from Johns Hopkins University. She joined the Grace faculty in 1977. She resides in Winona Lake with her husband. Richard Woodring, a Grace College and Seminary graduate who serves as the director of student employment at Grace schools. They are members of the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church where Richard serves as minister of Christian Education
