Wawasee swim club wins

Dahlstrom, better known in the area as a running back, was a key member of the first winning football squad in six years at Wawasee The 5-11, 178-pounder, Finished second in the Northern Lakes Conference in rushing and second in area scoring His best defensive effort of the season was against then second-ranked Goshen when he picked off three passes against the defending AA state runner-up He returned his first interception 94-yards for a touchdown, leading to the Warriors shocking 25-13 upset. Dahlstrom averaged about five yards per carry as a running back and was the team captain for coach Myron Dickerson's Warriors.

R Corl 157 West Noble defeat North Webster squad North Webster’s sixth grade “A” and "B” basketball teams dropped their first game of the season Monday night, Nov. 15, against West Noble The Trojans "B - ’ squad leading scorers all had four points apiece in the 22-18 loss. Chris Jordan, Eric Stookey and Steve Eastman were the Trojans leading scorers. In the “A” contest, a much and physical West Noble squad trimmed the Trojans 36-23. Leading scorers were Matt Dick with 13 and Jeff Boyer with six. Dick was the leading rebounder with 10 boards. Coach Gene Smith said the West Noble squad won the battle inside “We had them close at halftime but the much larger West Noble squad pulled away in the second half,” be said.

Warrior girls open season with victory over Bethany Christian
By SHARON STUCKMAN Wawasee’s girls’ varsity basketball team opened its season Monday, Nov. 15, by defeating the Bethany Christian Braves 81-23. Coach Dale Brannock remarked, after the game, that “the kids did a nice job.” Wawasee had four girls scoring in double figures, and 11 of the 12 players for the Warrior girls scored during the evening. In the first quarter Bethany was able to score only one point, while Wawasee scored 17. At halftime Wawasee led 35-8. The Lady Braves had their best scoring quarter in the third Frigid temperatures greet runners at Marion Marathon Area runners were greeted with gusting winds and snow and a temperature in the mid twenties during the first annual Marion Marathon last Saturday. Sharon Rapp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Rapp of r 1 Pierceton placed fourth overall in the women's division of the 26.2 mile event. Ralph Bushong, Syracuse, finished fourth in the men’s 50 and over group. Second place in the 40-44 division went to Rex Reed of Warsaw. Reed posted the fastest time among area runners in two hours and 42 minutes. Doe Dervin, Goshen, ran to a 10th place award position in the 35-39 group. Tony Clouse, Syracuse, and Ron Baumgartner, Milford, also took part in the marathon. In all, nearly 300 runners signed up for the event. Kermit Welty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Welty of r 2 Syracuse and a past area resident, served as promoter and race director of the marathon. Welty currently resides in Marion and is director of the local YMCA.

Leading Wawasee scoring was senior, Grace Stichter, with 17. The other players in double figures for the Warriors were; sophomore, Sandy Payne, with 16; senior, Tona Sellers, with 14; and sophomore, Anita Swope, with 10. On the defensive side, Grace Stichter had five steals and three assists. Sandy Payne had four steals, Anita Swope had three assists and Cheryl Walker had four assists. Wawasee's junior varsity team is so large in number that the freshman girl’s team played the Bethany Christian junior varsity. The Lady Warriors defeated the Braves 35-10. Wawasee will host s West Noble on Thursday, Nov. 18, and on Saturday afternoon. Nov. 20, at 1 p.m., will play at Fairfield. On Monday, Nov. 22, Wawasee will host a county rival, the Lady Tigers of Warsaw. The junior varsity game will begin at 6:15.
