Lakeland art association to sponsor 25th exhibit
The Lakeland Art Association will sponsor its 25th annual Fall Art Exhibit this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 6 and 7. at the “101 Center", Old Rd. 30W, Warsaw, across from R.R. Donnelley s & Sons. The hours on Saturday are set from 9 a m -8 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a m -5:30 p.m. Entries will be accepted on Friday. National Children s Book Week is November 15-21, with the theme for this year being “Pass The Word, Read” The Syracuse Public Library is celebrating by featuring a children's art display. Entries for the display will be chosen and taken to the library by the art teachers of the Syracuse Public School Syracuse librarians urge people to visit the library and view this display of local talent. While you are there pick up some colorful children s books, which are full of interesting topics? Rucker elected to Easter Seal board As part of the Indiana Easter Seal Society's 43rd Annual meeting and state conference, new members were elected to the Society’s Board of Directors Kenneth Rucker, of Winona Lake, was elected for a three year term Rucker, a vice president of the Lake City Bank. Warsaw, will join the other 23 members who compose the all-volunteer board. This board is made up of mem bers from throughout the state and will guide the state society in its work with the handicapped. Rucker's involvement with Easter Seals began many years ago when his family received Easter Seal service. He was so pleased and so impressed with Easter Seals, that he volunteered to help the Kosciusko County Easter Society. He has served on the Kosciusko County Easter Seal Society's hoard for eight years, three years as vice president and is currently serving his second term as president.

Youthpower conference Youthpower, an organization dedicated to educating future consumers on food production and economics, food techniques, nutrition and related careers, will hold it's 23rd annual Youthpower Conference on November 4 and 5 at the Indianapolis Airport Hilton The importance of understanding the food story “from farm to table" is the key philosophy behind the program. Delegates are exposed to trends in the food industry such as new products and packaging as well as existing opportunities in several areas from farming to restaurant management. Delegates asked to participate in the two-day conference are outstanding representatives of youth organizations throughout Indiana and are selected on the basis of leadership and communication abilities. Organizations invited to send participants are the 4-H Club Junior Leaders. Future Farmers of America. Indiana Sunshine Society. Camp Fire Girls, Explorers. Health Occupations Student Association. Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, Indiana Rural Youth, Future Homemakers of America. Health Career Clubs of Indiana, Girl Scouts of the USA, Office Education Association. Distributive Education Chibs of America and Junior Achievement. Conference speakers include Margaret Dodd of Preston Safeway Rpods. Inc.; Joseph Cioch. hotel, restaurant and institutional management department chairman, Purdue University; and Ken Cheatham. American Farm Bureau Federation. Delegates will also attend six different workshops during the conference. Girls' squad advances to state cross-country meet
Wawasee High School's girls’ cross-coimtry team kept its winning ways alive over the week end. finishing second in the regional meet at Fort Wayne Saturday. Leading the way for the squad again was first-year runner Grace Stichter. She finished 11th in the overall scoring, sixth in the team scoring, with an 11:30 time. Coach Jerry Minton said he was pleased with his top runner's performance but said Stichter “wasn’t very satisfied.” She finished about 25 seconds behind state champion contender Connie Everage, who broke former Wawasee standout Stacy Wall’s course record at the sectional meet two weeks ago. "One performer who came through with an outstanding effort was Sonya Melendez.” said Minton. She was on Stichter s heels throughout the ONE MINUTE SPORTS QUIZ 1.
