New rating decreases Webster insurance costs
Tippecanoe'Township Trustee Richard Mitchell explains that, due to a recent insurance survey, the fire insurance classification for North Webster and Tippecanoe Township has been improved to nine. Farm property in the township is eligible for Class A premium credit. Formerly class 10 applied for this area, and Mitchell states that the new classification will result in a decrease in the fire insurance rates for many insured commercial properties within the community. The new rates will be effective on November 1. The survey was not conducted for property loss prevention or life safety purposes and no life safety or property loss prevention recommendations will be made, according to U.B. surance Services Office of Indiana. The change from Class 10 to Class nine, according to Magnuson, for a typical owner occupied single family frame dwelling, insured for $40,000, is a premium decrease of approximately $43 per year for a homeowners policy and $36 per year for a dwelling policy. The change will affect typical mercantile properties to a degree, depending upon the type of building construction, occupancy and other rating factors. The above changes apply only for insurance companies using Indiana Services Office rates. Numerous insurance companies - use other than ISO rates so that the effect of the change in class may be different for their policy holders.
