At about 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, snow fell in the Lakeland area and continued to fall intermittently throughout the day, the first snow of the season. The temperature hovered at 30 to 40 degrees. At times, the snow increased to blizzard proportions. Though it was still October, it could well have been mid-winter. Predictions call for more of the same. Mr. and Mrg. The need for certain consolidated services, and the rapidly increasing number of families establishing year-around residence in the lake area, have materially increased interest in a program of this nature. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kroh and children, Tom and Jane, attended the Purdue-Notre Dame football game at Lafayette last Saturday. Ann and Dick Kowallick entertained 30 ghosts at a Casper the Friendly Ghost Halloween party last Saturday. The party began with a march around the lawn, the ghosts sheets flapping in the wind. During the games, prizes were won by Janice Pilcher, Jim Graff, Jack Ridings, Roger Bornman, Kay Nordman, Duane Nine and Don Wiley. Dr. Clark went to Bloomington, Monday, to bring home his wife and son, who had visited her parents there last week. On Tuesday, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Self moved from their farm to their home here in Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hamman have moved to the Self farm, where they will spend the winter. On Thursday evening of last week, William Gubert, a farmer living a few miles from town, drove into town with his span of fine horses After doing some trading he started for home, but had only reached the top of the hill in front of Sharon Hall's residence when one of the horses dropped dead in the road. We have not learned the cause of its death.
