Heiser to be state senior queen candidate Everil L. Heber of Warsaw is one of 14 candidates, ranging in age from 66 to 89, competing for the title of Senior Queen at the Indiana State Fair Friday, Aug. 20, in the Senior Citizens Building on the fairgrounds. The competition will begin at 2:15 p.m. and will culminate when Gov. Robert D. Orr crowns the queen after a panel of judges make a selection. Jean Merritt, executive director of the Indiana Department on Aging and Community Services, indicated Indiana was one of the first states to conduct a senior queen competition and the event is celebrating its ninth year Wawusee landmark is topic Rosalyn Jones, head librarian at the Syracuse Library, presented a film on the Sphinx Wawasee Hotel for the Kiwanis Club of Lakeland. North Webster, on Monday morning, Aug. 16. The film was a promotional presentation showing the features of the historical landmark built during the late 1920 s and is now property of the Syracuse Library. The Sphinx Wawasee Hotel could accommodate 400 guests and featured spacious lounges and a large dining room where an orchestra furnished music for dances and at meal times. A wide lawn on the lakeside was suitable for sun bathing and relaxation. Adjacent to the hotel was a convention hall available for large group meetings with were parishes and The Church of the Little Flower for worshippers nearby. The Sphinx Wawasee closed as a hotel in the middle 1940 s and was used by the Wawasee Prep School for several years. In recent years, it has been considered for a condominium complex.

Elkhart, Goshen and Syracuse attending Following the carry-in dinner at noon, the president opened the business meeting and the secretary read the minutes of the last reunion. President William Strieby and Secretary Mildred Snyder were re-elected to office. James Hamman, at 81, was the oldest member present and Jonathan Edward McCullough, 11-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry McCullough, was the youngest. Pictures of former reunions and members were viewed and discussed. The next reunion will be held next year, the third Sunday in August, at the same place.

Jeri Meditch on Ball State Homecoming steering committee
Jeri Meditch, Syracuse, is a member of the 1982 Homecoming Steering Committee at Ball State University. Following the theme of "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans," she will work as business manager for the university's 54th Homecoming Week. Activities will begin Monday, Oct. 4, and run through Saturday, Oct. 9, when the Ball State Cardinals will host the Bobcats of Ohio University for MidAmerican conference football.

Robert Mendoza, Livonia; Mich., was best man with Richard Miller, Detroit, Mich.; James Miller, Birmingham, Mich.; David Miller, Pontiac; Richard Reed, Pontiac; and Greg Aldrich, Clarkston, Mich, serving as groomsmen. The bride’s mother wore a turquoise silk dress and the bridegroom's mother wore a pink crepe dress. Both had corsages of yellow roses and baby's breath. A sit-down dinner followed the ceremony. It was held in Troy, Mich. The bride, granddaughter of the late Ida Michael of Milford, attended Waterford Moth High School and received a BA from Kalamazoo College. She is currently employed at Smith and Andrews Construction Co, Oak Park, Mich. The bridegroom is a project manager at Smith and Andrews Construction Co., and graduated from Waterford Township High School and attended Central Michigan College. Miss Meditch is a junior at Ball State majoring in accounting. She is a 1980 graduate of Wawasee High School and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Meditch of Syracuse. Proceeds generated from this annual event at the university are presented to the Ball State Student Foundation and are used to aid students with financial need.

BPW honors 25-year members
The Syracuse Business and Professional Women met August 10, at a local restaurant, where they honored four 25-year members for their years of time, service and devotion. The meeting was their monthly dinner meeting and there were 26 members and one guest present. The four club members honored for their 25 years of help and guidance were Celia Beckman, Blanch Mason, Hilda Seiffert and Mildred Williams.

They were presented with engraved pen watches. Mary Medlock gave a brief resume on her family life, school and community activities. Her vocational objective is in the applied sciences and secretarial studies. The club will be participating in the Syracuse Park Day with an ice cream social. Crayons and coloring books will be sent to a nursing home in Warsaw, where there is a need.
The door prize was won by Celia Beckman. Following the business meeting, a surprise baby shower was given for Deb Fox. The September meeting will be held at Fredetta Money’s residence. It will be a carry-in and guest night. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED — The engagement of Lynn Ann Hathaway and Danny Lee Herendeen has been announced by their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Hathaway of r 1 Warsaw and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Herendeen of r 7 Warsaw. The bride-elect is a 1981 graduate of “Wawasee High School and is employed as computer lab assistant at J.vy Tech in Warsaw. Her fiance is a 1981 graduate of Warsaw High School now employed as an automotive technician at Sells Garage in Silver Lake. October 9 has been set as the wedding date. Genealogy section to meet tonight The Genealogy Section of the Koscusko County Historical Society will meet in the meeting room of the Warsaw Public Library, comer of Center and Detroit, Wednesday evening. August ’ririarT p.m. The society library will be open at6:3o p m. A movie will be shown, entitled “The Thread of Life.” Note the meeting is one half hour earlier than usual.
