X Syracuse \ Youth l| American Legion won the Syracuse Youth League’s Major League tournament Friday with a 5-1 Championship win over Pilchers. In earlier tourney games. Rotary downed Syracuse State Bank 10-7, Pilchers defeated South Shore, and American Legion shut out Rotary 11-0. Miller Brothers won the Minor League championship with a 7-3 win over Kiwanis. In earlier Minor League tourney games, Ace Hardware downed KFC 1910, Kiwanis defeated Fire Department 8-4. and Miller Brothers beat Ace Hardware 131. The Syracuse Travel Team ended their season with a 8-7 loss to Pierceton, but still finished with a fine 14-4 record. The Syracuse Pony League team won their tourney with an 18-10 win over Fairfield, and a 141 victory over North Webster. In Girls' Softball Travel League action, Syracuse downed Milford 26-4. Syracuse uwurds on Friduy The Syracuse Youth League Awards Ceremony will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at Rotary Field. All participants in the program should attend, and the public is invited to give encouragement and support to this year ’s teams. Winners in the 18-hole play were as follows: Maxine Fuller, first; Gloria Stoffel and Jo Waltz, tie for second; Sandy Walgamuth, Joan Gray and Nancy Baker, tie for third Winners in the nine-hole play were as follows: Erma Sink, first; Peg Smith, second; Carol Clark, Lil Toppin, Diane Lawson, Jean Niles and Emma Souder, tie for third BOULDER BELLES Donna Beer finished with low gross when the Boulder Belles of Big Boulder Golf Course of Milford met last week. Leatrice Rapp had second low gross. Cheryl Brunjes and Leatrice Rapp had first low net with Donna Beer having second low net. Ruth Beer and Ann McConnell finished with low putts. MAXWELTON Maxwelton Ladies held a Merl Smith Tournament on July 28. Nine and 18 hole gals played together. The ladies played in two gal teams. First place winners were Doris Sedgwick and Marge Yoder. Jackie Wortinger and Eloise Carlson placed second There was a three-way tie for third place. Winners were Delight Craig and Marolyn Sefton; Sylvia Duncan and Barb Beemer; and Caryl Gildersleeve and Lori Welty Four teams tied for fourth place, they were: Pat Hooverand Dot Wysong; Leilani Nemeth and Alice Herbison; Dora Nelson and Jo Butler; and Joan Stoeltingand Patty Norman. Teams won cash prizes and there were two door prizes, cross stitch purses, made and donated by Maggie Smith. AU the Maxwelton Ladies say they hope Merl will have another tourney next year. Volleyball meeting on August 10 Giris’ volleyball coach Barb Brouwer has announced that there is a meeting for aU girls who plan to go out for the Wawasee High School Volleyball Team, and their parents, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 8 p.m. at the high school. The meeting wiU be held in room 109.
