Lakeland Loving Care to hold carnival Saturday

The carnival will offer a concession stand, rummage sale, games for children, and a dunk tank featuring Lakeland Loving Care Center employees, and possibly area law enforcement officers. All of the proceeds raised will go to the activity department of the Lakeland Loving Care Center. Those helping with the event include the Syracuse Giri Scouts. Milford Christian Church Youth Group, Apostolic Youth Group, Staci and Traci Ostendorf, Margie Parker and Maggie Edwards. „ Volunteers honored at Bowen Center A recognition night was held recently at the Bowen Center in Warsaw to honor the volunteers in all the service programs held at the center Volunteers attending were Cliff Smith, Mrs. Elmer Ervin. Lydia Tucker, Dennis Vaught married in garden ceremony

Lydia Tucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Tucker, r 1 Milford, and Dennis Vaught, son of Mrs. Dorothy Zimmerman, Marshall, Texas, were married July 10 at 3:30 in the afternoon in a garden ceremony at her parents’ home. The bride resided at 309 North le Boulevard, de la Paix Apt. 298, South Bend and the bridegroom resided at 57 South Third Street, Niles, Mich., prior to their marriage. Twenty-five guests attended the double-ring ceremony officiated by Richard Brouilette of the Goshen Christian Church. The couple was married beneath a white wooden arch covered with pastel floral garland with three pots of peach and pink geraniums at each side. Music was provided by Craig Koble, pianist and Paulette ■ fl UNITED WAY CHAIRMAN — Dr. Larry Crabb, superintendent of Warsaw Community Schools, will serve as chairman for the 1982 United Way Campaign according to Gus Sideris, president of the United Way of Kosciusko County. Inc. “We must consider the challenges that face the United Way in these times of increasing needs and spiraling costs, we count ourselves fortunate to have a man of Dr. Crabb’s stature and credentials chairing our 1982 campaign," commented Sideris. Not new to United Way. Dr. Crabb is currently serving in his second year as a member of the United Way board of directors. He is also serving as secretary to Baker Boys' Club, a United Way agency. Recently honored as Grace College’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Dr. Crabb received his bachelor’s degree from Grace and an master’s and Ed.D. from Indiana University. He serves on the boards of Ivy Tech; Kosciusko Leadership Academy and the North Central Indiana Special Education Coop, as well as the president's committee of Grace College. Dr. Crabb is also a member of the Kiwanis Club. Chamber of Commerce and an adult Sunday School teacher at the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. Dr. Crabb and his wife, Barbara. have two children and reside in South wood, r 9 Warsaw. Return from California trip Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Simon of Syracuse. Mrs. Clinton Gilbert and Miss Sharon Gilbert of Milford returned home Saturday evening from a two-week auto trip to California where they spent five days with Tech Sgt and Mrs Larry Simon and daughter at Edwards Air Force Base. While in California they viewed the landing of the Columbia and spent a day at Disneyland. Other sites visited by the local group were the Arch at Saint Louis, MO. the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Announce engagement Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R Miller, r 2 box 272 Claypool, announce the engagement of their daughter, Marcia Jo, to Douglas William VanLue. son of Mr. and Mrs. John VanLue of Syracuse. The bride-elect is a 1978 graduate of Warsaw High School and the bridegroom-elect is a 1979 graduate of .Wawasee High School. Both are presently attending Ball State University. Brouilette, soloist, who sang “Through the Eyes of Love,” “One Hand, One Heart,” and “That’s the Way.” The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white organza with a high neckline richly decorated with chiffley lace. The neckline was trimmed with Venice lace and sea pearls with a chiffley flounce around the yoke. The waist and skirt were decorated with Chantilly and Venice lace and the cathedral train had a ruffle of chiffley lace. A double sheer veil with simulated pearls adorned her head and she carried a bouquet of assorted fresh pastel flowers with white roses. The bouquet had streamers with small pink and peach rosebuds at the bottom. Laura Weller, twin sister of the bride from Silver Lake, served as maid of honor. She wore a pink taffeta gown covered with double netting. The gown had a ruffled neckline with a pink satin ribbon around the waist and a small cluster of pink rosebuds on the left side of the bow. She carried a white parasol with fresh pastel flowers around the edge and on the handle. The bridegroom, wearing a white tuxedo, was attended by Lonnie Baker of Marshall, Texas, as best man. Baker wore a silver tuxedo The bride’s mother wore a long sleeve mint green vaile dress lined with taffeta and the bridegroom ’s mother wore a long sleeve soft mauve, two-pieced dress. Each were a corsage of fresh pastel flowers. Seventy-five guests attended the reception held at the Leon Tucker residence with Elsie Free, Carol Koble, Sue Laßue and June Mishler serving cake, punch, nuts and mints. The threetiered cake had fresh assorted pastel flowers adorning the top and base. Laura Weismann was in charge of the guest book and Keri Walther, cousin of the bride, was in charge of the gifts The bride graduated from Wawasee High School and the Memorial School of Nursing in South Bend. She is currently employed in the intensive care unit of Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse. The bridegroom, a Buchanan High School graduate, is self-employed in home decorating. After a honeymoon in Jamaica, the couple will reside at 309 North le Boulevard, de la Paix in South Bend. Main, Warsaw. Meals for Older Americans is for persons 60 years or older and is a chance to meet new friends, enjoy hot, nutritional meals. The sites are opened several hours each day including noon for programs. Meals for Older Americans is not associated with Welfare but is for the promotion for better health for the older population. Historical society to visit Allen County Library

The Genealogy Section of the Kosciusko County Historical Society will not meet on its regular meeting date but instead will go as a group to the Fort Wayne-Allen County library on Tuesday, July 20.
