THE SHOCK probably hasn’t worn off yet for Mrs. Curtis John (Deb) Bender, Milford, who won 893 Tuesday, June 15, in the U 93 “Fedin’ 7-Up” give away. Mrs. Bender stated it was great winning the money. “I could really use the money.” Mrs. Bender stated she was grocery shopping at Family Fare. Nappanee, when she was approached and asked how she was feeling. “1 didn’t realise they would be around here,” she remarked and added she took a chance and answered “Feeling 7W*“ That answer gave her the $93! -oANOTHER WINNER was Toby Harnev of Our Town. Toby won first place in the elementary talent division of the Mermaid Festival’s talent competition Monday night. -oNOBLE AND Donna Fisher, Milford, have received word that 5,900 veterans in Kosciusko Co. Kosciusko County has a total of 5,900 veterans, of whom 4,930 are persons who have served during a war-time period, according to the Veterans Administration The latest statistics show that 1,880 served in the Viet Nam Era, and of these 1,770 did not serve in Korea There are 1,130 Korean conflict veterans, and of these 1,050 did not see action in World War II The largest group of veterans is from World War 11. They number 2,010 There are still 90 veterans from World War I. Since the ending of the Viet Nam War 300 persons from Kosciusko County have served in the armed forces and have been discharged There are an ad ditional 660 persons who were in service between the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam Era. Over one-fourth of all Viet Nam veterans served in the combat area during the almost 11-year war In Indiana there are 717,000 veterans of whom 604,000 served in time of war There are 234,000 Viet Nam Era veterans; 127,000 Korean Conflict veterans; 265,000 World War II veterans, and 10,000 World War I veterans There have been 38,000 who have served in the armed forces since the end of the Viet Nam Era and are now discharged, and 75.000 ex-servicemen who served between Viet Nam and Korea.

their daughter and son-in-law, Earlene and Nick Tatro are alright. They are on the east side of Beirut, Lebanon and all of the fighting is occurring on the west side of that city. Nick and Earlene have been Associated Press correspondents since the mid-70s and have been In such places as Iran, Egypt and other major countries in the Middle East. Tatro is the AP chief correspondent for the Middle East and Earlene is an AP correspondent. According to Fisher, they received word that their daughter was alright during the past week end after Earlene called several friends in New York and the friends relayed the message to her family. —o— SPECIAL NOTE should be made of the fact that E. Winning the senior division was John Gardner, Sr., whose daughter Mrs. Marvin (Leatrice) Rapp wrote about her dad. —o— I DON’T remember losing it but Virginia Bess showed up at The M-J office this past week with a Red Cross Home Nurs, v book which had my name on it and the fact I had taken the course at Milford High School in January. February and March of 1956. The book was found behind the lockers when they were tom out and cost a total of 58 cents Wonder if students today could buy a 235 page book for that price!

RESIDENTIAL DIVISION MANAGER — Donald P. Deck has been appointed manager of Todd Realty’s residential division. Deck, longtime resident of the Lake Wawasee area, was employed by Liberty (Homes, Inc., for 15 years where le served as vice president and was a member of the board of directors. Previously, he was employed by International Telephone and Telegraph for 11 years as controller. A graduate of International College. Deck received his BS degree in accounting. He currently resides with his wife at r 2. Syracuse. Serving our country LANCE HALSEY Airman Lance D Halsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Halsey of r 1 Cromwell has graduated from the US Air Force security police specialist course at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas Halsey will now serve at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. His wife, Marie, is the daughter of Callie M. Smith of Syracuse. LARRY LAIRD Senior Master Sgt. Larry L. Laird, son of Mr and Mrs. Robert J. Laird of r 3 Syracuse, has arrived for duty at Bolling AuForce Base. Washington. Lair, an imagery interpretation superintendent, was previously assigned in Schierstein. West Germany. He is a 1959 graduate of Syracuse High School.
