SPARTA WOMEN TAKE SECOND — Sparta Township (Cromwell) women's waterball team came in second place in the women's competition of the firemen's and ladies' waterball contest Sunday at the Mermaid Festival. North Webster. There were four women s teams including two teams from North Webster and one team from Lake of the Woods. Lake of the Woods went on to become the ladies champion. Shown in the top photo are three of the Lake of the Woods team members and the North Webster I ladies team. Team one was defeated in the first round by Lake of the Woods 3:21 to :®4 and North Webster 11 team was defeated by Sparta Township 1: 42 to :45. Shown in the bottom is the Sparta's women’s team going against North Webster II in the preliminary competition. Sparta Township was defeated by Lake of the Woods in the finals 2:57 to : I®. This year's turnout for the firemen's and ladies' waterball contest at the North Webster 37th Annual Mermaid Festival was bigger and better than the last There were 14 men s teams and four women's teams competing for the title of the best waterball team Winning the men's competition was Sparta Township (Cromwell' I team and m the women's competition it was Lake of the Woods Sparta Township women came in second Teams competing included North Webster 1 and 11. Milford. Sparta Township 1 and 11; Leesburg. Lake of the Woods I. 11. and 111; Bremen I and 11. Mentone I and 11. and Columbia City

Competing in the womens division were North Webster 1 and 11. Sparta I defeated Bremen 11, 4:24 to: 14 Sparta 11 defeated Mentone I. 2:42 to 2:07 Milford defeated Leesburg. 5:42to:00 Columbia City defeated Lake of the Woods 1.4:16 to 53 In the semi-finals: Sparta I defeated Sparta 11. 4:03t01:25 Columbia City defeated Milford, 5:24 to .06 And in the finals Sparta 1 went on to defeat Columbia City. 3:59 to 1:45 Women’s Results In the first round the results were: Lake of the Woods defeated Webster 1.3:21 to .04 Sparta Township defeated Webster 11. 1:42 to 45 In the final round it was Lake of the Woods defeating Sparta Township 2:57 to .10.

LAKELAND TEAMS COMPETE — The Lakeland area was well represented in the firemen’s and ladies' waterball contest at the 37th Annual Mermaid Festival. North Webster. Sunday. June 20. Fire departments from Leesburg. Milford. Sparta Township (Cromwell) and North Webster were represented. All total there were 14 fire department teams participating. Shown in the top photo. Milford and North Webster II compete against each other in the preliminaries of the waterball contest. Milford's firemen went on to the semi-finals where they were defeated by Columbia City. Webster 11 team was defeated by Milford in the first round. Shown in the middle are Milford and Leesburg teams as Milford controls the waterball. The final outcome was Milford defeating Leesburg in the second round with a total time of 5:42 for Milford and no time for Leesburg. Shown in the bottom photo are Lake of the Woods 111 team members and the overall champion Sparta I team in the first battle in round one. Sparta defeated Lake of the Woods 111 with a total of 3:52 to 1:28. Sparta 1 also defeated Sparta II and Columbia City to become the champions. Firemen on the Sparta I team were Tim Leamon. Sorority has booth at Mermaid Festival
Kappa Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Syracuse, has set up a booth at the 37th Annual Mermaid Festival in North Webster to provide information on Tonda Hewitt and her 4 4-year-old daughter Alissa (Lisa) who/nave epidermolysis bullosa, a \skin disease. ) The sorority has started! local

campaign tb raise $60,000 for Mrs. Hewitt and her daughter to travel to Germany for treatment. The booth and the space were donated by the North Webster Lions Club who sponsor the Mermaid Festival.
