the varsity track team and was running 400 meters. She finished high enough in the sectional for a trip to the regional at Fort Wayne Northup. There, she was retired early because of a fake-start. Her cross-country career at WHS will always be a part of the Warriors’ record books. It may not be because of her accomplishments — they may be surpassed some day — but she will always be known as the founder of the Warriors’ crosscountry program. Along with Tonya Yeager, who is now attending college in Greece, she joined the boys’ squad her sophomore year. There wasn’t enough interest to begin a separate girls' squad at that time. The IHSAA did not officially recognize girls’ crosscountry so when the season ended Stacy and Tonya competed in a private state meet where they finished 11th and 14th, respectively. A separate girls' squad was established her junior year, but because of her illness she wasn't able to compete at full force After going to a doctor, she managed to finish first in the conference meet, second in the regional, and was a member of a sectional-winning relay team In her final year as a Warrior, her team finished in seventh place at the first officiallysanctioned state cross-country meet for girls She finished first in the sectional and conference meets with a fifth-place finish in the regional Leaving home for ISU doesn't have her too worried “It wiU be about the same as it is here (high school ). I had three or four hours of homework after practice every day." She added, "I will miss the members of the cross-country team the most." She said she isn't sure what the competition will be like on the college level. In college, women run 5000 meters (3.1 miles' in cross-country. “The times are difficult to compare. I don't know how hard it is at the college level I will just try- to keep having fun at it," she said The real reason for going to ISU is for academics, she said She plans to study medical technology, with the possibility of going into sports medicine In the future. Indiana State has one of the country’s strongest medical science programs. She received the WHS Scholastic Athlete of the Year and is 12th in a class of 212. She had a 3.7 grade point average, out of a possible 4.0. at WHS She also received the Fellowship of Christian Athletes "athlete of the year" award, and the three “D’s" award — desire, determination and dedication —two straight years. Although she said she will miss her friends at WHS. she said the thought of being away from home doesn’t bother her “I just will be myself . r show my faith, read my Bible, and talk to people.. ."she said. She admits that college life will be different with a lot more people around than there were at WHS She is confident though, that things will go well. “If I keep the Lard first, everything will work out OK. " she said.
