The group is seeking tenants for the new building. Police continue investigation into a break-in sometime after

Speaking Words of Wisdom — Keep on hoeing

By G. EDWARDS GEANS . Minister It is now time to cultivate. The ground has been fertilized. The seed has been planted. And the crops are well on their way. But the work is not yet done. From to picking, every step is vitally important in producing a good crop. In a small village in Pennsylvania. one church posted this bit of advice on the bulletin board. ‘Pray For A Good Harvest. But Keep On Hoang!” Sounds like good advice! It would be sheer folly for a farmer to ask God for a good crop without planting any seed. And it would be equally ridiculous to pray for a successful season without paying any more attention to the seed once it was planted An abundant harvest is the result of the cooperative effort of both God and the farmer. While God gives the growth, the farmer must plant the seed, cultivate the ground and use every means at his disposal to produce the best possible crop This all points to an unfortunate attitude that seems to exist in our modem society. There seems to be a definite mind-set which expects a harvest without the hardships, a paycheck without the performance and a reward without the responsibility. It is a basic desire to receive a blessing without carrying the burden It is a well known fact that American productivity has suffered from the gradual deterioration of the eight-hour work day. The idea of a true 40 hours of productivity each week is almost a joke. Between a long list of holidays, birthdays, personal days, sick days, extended vacations, longer breaks, union regulations and just plain old laziness; the amount of unproductive time that receives full compensation would stagger the imagination. It may well be that our inflation over the past fewyears has been caused, in part, by the deflation of human productivity. In principle, this same problem exists in the spiritual realm as well. How often do we want strong spiritual growth in our =3OE3O= Skylark Realty Office Ph. 457-3109 North Os Syracuse On Road 13 O A. Lambert. Broker Phone 457-2091 Jerry Lambert. faith without the necessary work that goes witK*it? We pray for great spiritual depth, but seem to neglect the discipline of prayer, regular worship. Bible study, fellowship and Christian living. It may well be that many of our lives are unproductive because of a failure of effort, work and determination. If we want a productive. Christian faith, let us pray to God for a great harvest, but remember to ‘‘keep on hoeing." We must pray as if everything depends upon God and work as if everything depends on us. ‘ Lutz sentenced A Syracuse man's sentance was suspended in Elkhart Circuit Court recently.
