Fishing good in area lakes

The Lakeland area has excellent fishing opportunities for residents and visitors. Traveling fishermen often boast about the size and weight of fish caught in any of the area's natural waters. The well-suited fishing lakes in Kosciusko County don't have any legal season set. But it seems fish always bite best before and after spawning season. May and June are the best months for bass and crappie. Bass weighing five to six pounds may be found in the area lakes. Area lakes include Waubee Lake, southeast of Milford; Syracuse Lake; Lake Wawasee; Lake Tippecanoe . Shoe Lake, located near Tippy. Dewart Lake; Lake Webster; Papakeechie Lake; and the numerous lakes in the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife area including Shock and Spear Lakes. Lake Wawasee provides more walleyed pike Last vear the Department

of Natural Resources stocked seven to eight million fries, or young fish, in the lake. Good perch fishing is also available at Wawasee as well as large mouth and small mouth bass. Lake Tippecanoe has large pike and good perch fishing is available along with white bass. Channel catfish are not found in many natural northern Indiana lakes, except at Tippy. Dewart Lake, between Syracuse and Milford, is good for perch and crappies. Tri-County lakes are frequently stocked to provide good fishing results. Shock and Spear are both stocked with northern pike. Although Spear Lake is known for its good fishing environment, Wyland Lake, also at Tri-County, was stocked last year with 800 trout. Lake Webster had eight to 10-inch muskies last year. The best Webster fishing is large mouth bass, although bluegill fishing is also popular
