Recipes for picnics
Picnics are fun whether they are in your backyard, by the lake or at a public park. Local parks which offer picnicking facilities are Lakeside Park, Waubee Lake, near Milford; Lakeside Park, Syracuse Lake; Crosson Mill Park and Railroad Park, both in Syracuse; and Lakeview Spring Rest Park overlooking the Barbee Lakes south of North Webster. In addition to those mentioned above picnic areas will also be available, in the near future, at the Old Fish Hatchery site on Lake Wawasee. The picnic menu can be as simple or complicated as you want it to be. but just remember to make sure it’s a balanced meal. Another thing to keep in mind when picnicking is to keep perishable items in protective containers made for keeping food items cool. If you are the adventurous type, instead of packing a picnic lunch with fried chicken or prepared items, you maywant to cook on an open fire or grill. Everything from steak, fish, hot dogs and prepared pizzas can be grilled. Why not try the following recipies on your next picnic: Potato Salad 6 medium potatoes 4 cup chopped onion 1 tsp. salt 1 8 tsp. pepper 4 cup pickle relish 4 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing 4 cup chopped celery 2 hard-cooked eggs cut up Boil potatoes until tender, cool and peel and then cut into cubes, put in bowl with onion, eggs, celery, salt, pepper and mayonnaise. Mix together. Refrigerate until ready to use. Makes four to six servings. Nutty-Noodle Clusters 2 — 6 oz. packages chocolate . chips 2 — 6 oz. packages butterscotch chips 154 oz. can Chow Mein noodles 4 cup peanuts or cashews In heavy saucepan combine chocolate . and butterscotch chips.
