Lakeland Youth Center

The Lakeland Youth Center. Syracuse, has planned some exciting programs for the summer, including classes in yoga, gymnastics, roller skating, crafts and adult supervisied free time each afternoon, according to center director Jill Stahley. Yoga classes will begin June 9 and run through July 14 Classes will meet Wednesday mornings 9 to 10:30 a m. for ages 16 and up.

Limited class size will be required and the cost for a six week course, with Sue Kehoe as instructor, will be S3O. Yoga releases physical and mental tension through exercise. Classes will begin with exercise in improve muscular strength and will include breathing exercises. The instructor has taught since 1978

and is a staff member with Captiva Fitness Caper, has raised her family here and now spends her summers on Morrison Island. Roller skating will begin June 17 and end July 29. This activity will run each Thursday afternoon from 2 to 4 p m at the center with a small fee. Elementary aged children are invited. They must furnish their own skates. This provides children somewhere to go and spend time with friends. Gymnastics is a popular class at the center. The classes will meet at Wawasee High School for lessons. Instructors this year will be Kim Conrad and Tracey Rinker. Classes for beginners and advanced beginners, semi-private classes, competitive classes and intermediate and advanced classes are scheduled. They

being June 14 for beginners, with classes specially designed for individual needs of the student. Each Wednesday afternoon, starting June 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. a crafts class will meet. Students enrolling in this class must be at least five years old. Many projects will be made and will be taken home each week. Students must be able to cut, paste, color and follow instructions. Exercise class for ladies will begin June 15 and continue through July 29 from 8 to 9 a m. at the center Donna Johnson is the instructor. Each Tuesday from June 15 to July 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. the center will be open for kids to go and play. There is no charge for this and they will have a chance to play different games, with adult supervision.
