14th annual awards day held at Wawasee Friday

The 14th Annual Honors Awards Program at Wawasee High School was held last Friday afternoon in the school gymnasium. Several new awards were given out this year including the addition of a second SSOO scholarship from the Indiana State Student Assistance Commission, known as the Hoosier Scholar Award. This year Susie Schmucker and Brian Brannock were both recipients of the award. The Syracuse Gamma Sigma Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a national service sorority, presented a money scholarship to Scott Parker, the first recipient of this award. Another new award was presented by the Syracuse Business and Professional Women’s Club which voted to give a scholarship for the first time to Mary Medlock The Syracuse State Bank presented a new award titled the Mr. and Miss Warrior Award. Athlete of the Year. Two athletically outstanding seniors were chosen by the athletic staff at Wawasee: Stacy Wall, chosen as Miss Warrior; and Kevin Marks, as Mr. Warrior, both receiving engraved watches and their names are to be placed on a plaque in the hallway. The Altrusa Club of Warsaw awarded all three of its 1982 awards to Wawasee students: June Brouti. Michele Miller and Norine Sorensen. Other awards from Kosciusko County went to Wawasee students this year with the scholarship of Kosciusko Community Hospital Auxiliary going to Sarah Dain and the Kosciusko County Extension Homemakers Home Economics Scholarship to Greta Hurd.
