Trying new food

By PATRICIA M. RATHBI X Extension Agent, Home Ec Today, everyone's into trying new foods and recipes For those trying new foods, they're reading the ingredient listings and finding some strange sounding' names. Those experimenting with new recipes, find an ingredient called for is unfamiliar. So what do these people have in common, they're calling the extension office for answers to their questions. In the past month, the most frequently asked question involves the food additive, erythorbate Someone has started the rumor that this additive contains earthworms. Earthworms and erythorbate may sound alike but that's it — they have absolutely nothing else in common Sodium erythorbate is used as a preservative in cured meats such as luncheon meats. It helps to keep the color from fading, too Sodium erythorbate is a white, odorless, crystalline powder or granules, closely related to vitamin C. A recent women's magazine had a recipe for cacciatore which called for marinara sauce. Marinara Sauce is a spaghetti sauce. You can make your own using this recipe: Marinara Sauce 2 T olive or salad oil
