Syracuse takes track honors

The Syracuse Junior High bovs’ and girls' track teams traveled to the Tippecanoe Valley Eight Team Tourney last Thursday. May 20. and both came home champions. The girls won in exciting fashion as only six points separated the top four teams. The boys team dominated as they rolled up 56 points to win by 15. Girls’ .Meet The final girls' team standings were Syracuse. 45; Akron. 44; Pierceton, 40*3 1 Milford. 38*3; North Webster. 34; Wakarusa, nine; Mentone, seven, and South Whitley, six The girls faced an uphill battle as their star shot putter and • discus thrower. Becky Welty, was lost before the season started with an eye injury Last year she won the discus and finished fourth in shot put as a seventh grader To add to their miseries Becca Stiver was disqualified after winning the 1600 meter run She had accidently crossed the track sideline while passing early in the race and her fine effort produced no points The team received a lift as seventh grader Julie Schmahl

Sixth grade ends season with loss

The .Milford boys’ and girls' sixth grade track teams ended their season on Wednesday. May--19, m a three way meet against Syracuse and North Webster Both teams were defeated by Syracuse and North Webster In the boys' meet, scorers were Terry Richardson, second place m the 80 hurdles; Jim Baker, third in the long jump, shot put and 220. Ted Hess, third in the 440 Mitch Price. third in the 880.

Webster track team defeats Milford

North Webster's sixth grade boys' track team defeated Milford's team 68-31 on Monday. May 17. but the girls came out winners with the final score 52-48 Boys' Meet Team scorers for Milford were Jim Baker, first m the 220 and second in shot put and high jump; Ted Hiss, first in the 440 and second in long jump. Area wrestlers to Valparaiso Area wrestlers competed at Valparaiso on May 22 in a qualifying tournament for the US Kids regional championships, which will be held at Wawasee High School this week end Brett Traviola placed first in the 11-12 year old. 95-pound division This is two years in a row Brett has placed first. Another record for winning first place in this tournament was set by Jeff Welborn He placed first in the 13-14 year old. 85pound division He has placed first for three consecutive years. Golfers win sectional

Wawasee Warrior golf team won the golf sectional at Eel River in the Churubusco Sectional Tuesday evening. May 25 The Warriors golf team defeated 15 other schools for the sectional title.
