Slide program hr Columbians and Sorosis
The Columbia Reading Circle met Monday evening, April 12, in the Fellowship Room of the Christian Church of Milford for the club's regular meeting at which members of the Sorosis Club were guests Evelyn Orn was in charge of the program for the evening and introduced Lois and Linda Kisner of Warsaw who presented a special slide presentation The two sisters, both graduates of Grace College, had spent last summer in Europe working in connection with the Child Evangelism Fellowship Organization During their European travels, the two had taken many in pictures of London. April 12. President Kevin Harney called the meeting to order Renee Beer led the group in saying the pledge to the American flag and Stacey Schieler led the 4-H pledge. Tim Troup gave the health and safety report on "How To Fly A Kite Safely." Toby Harney led the singing and Clark Schieler was in charge of recreation The next meeting will be Monday. Miss Promen is the daughter of Mrs. Jack Promen and the late jack Promen, 1522 Southwood Drive, Lima, and Kampf is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruhlin Pauff, r 1 Leesburg and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kampf. Van Wert, Ohh. Miss Promen is a graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School and attended Ohio State University. Lima Branch. She is employed at Huntington National Bank. Lima. Her fiance is a graduate of Marion High School. Marion and Miami University, Oxford. Ohio. He is employed at Cummin's Diesel. Lima. A June 12 wedding at 12 noon is planned in the Saint Rose Catholic Church. Lima.
Two officers elected by Syracuse BPW
. Gloria Hodler and Carol Smith were elected as new officers for the upcoming year for the Syracuse Business and Eta Beta Pi celebrates anniversary Members of Eta Beta Pi and one guest, Janet Rose Fisher, Syracuse, celebrated the 59th anniversary of the organization at an Elkhart restaurant Monday, April 12, for dinner. The 11 members sat at one long table with a centerpiece of roses and daisy's. Following the meal a decorated anniversary cake was served. When the club was organized there were 13 charter members, however, only three are still living. Flowers were given to two of the charter members present, Mary Bartlett, Syracuse and Vaneta Klinger, Elkhart. Not present was Irene Anglen, Nappanee, the only other remaining charter member. Flowers were also given to Iva Neff, Milford, for being the secret ary-treasurer for 13 years. The remainder of the afternoon was spent taking pictures and reminiscing. The May meeting will be in South Bend with Bernice Burns
Professional Women. Mrs. Hodler will become vice president and Mrs. Smith will become secretary. The election was held at the Tuesday evening meeting, April 13. In other changes for the club it was voted to change the due date of dues from June to July. The old and new officers as well as the advisory board will be meeting Monday evening. April 19, in the home of club president, Carol Elder. The program for the evening was given by Syracuse Junior Girl Scout Troop 192. The troop, which is sponsored by the BPW. explained the badges. Girl Scout pin and informed the group of Sue Baker honored on birthday Mrs. Dewey (Sue) Baker, 613 Mullen St., Syracuse, was honored at a surprise 50th birthday party Sunday, April 3. in her daughter s Syracuse home. Silver Thimbles meet at Haabs Mrs Ray Haab, Camelot Lake, entertained the Silver Thimble Club at her home Monday evening, April 12. Mrs. Arnold Doll was co-hostess. Mrs. Ken Beer, president, presided over the business session in which reports by Mrs. Phil Price, Mrs. Jerry Hostetler, Mrs. Richard Stoller and Mrs. Carlton Beer were heard. It was announced the mother and daughter dinner will be held May 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. "Happy Birthday” was sung for Mrs. Steven Beer, Mrs. Steven Haab and Edith Baumgartner, all of whom had March birthday’s, and Mrs. Philip Price. Mrs Robert Beer and Mrs. Ken Beer, who had April birthdays. “Happy Anniversary" was sung to Mrs. Doll, who had a March anniversary. and to Mrs. Hostetler. Mrs. Robert Beer and Mrs. Nelson Beer, who have April anniversaries. Mrs. Arthur Haab read an article on Easter and the song ‘TH Live For Him” was sung. Members decorated bud vases for use at Lakeland Loving Care.. Small pizzas, meatballs and mixed chilled fruit were served. Mrs. Steven Haab received the door prize of a centerpiece of spring flowers. The tables were decorated in spring pastel colors.

activities they participate in throughout the year. The girls also sang two songs for the group. During the business meeting the bazaar and bake sale on June 12 were discussed. Tickets for the chicken barbeque will be distributed among members at the May 11 meeting. Other business included the reading of letters from the multiple sclerosis society stating their appreciation for the donation; a letter sent out by the Girl Scouts for help in repairing items at the scout cabin; and two letters from the Enchanted Hills Playhouse Guild. An announcement was made by the committee for the May meeting that members were to invite their mothers, daughters or friends to the next meeting. This meeting will be a carry-in and members were asked to take a covered dish and their own table service. Prior to the close of the meeting Celia Beckman read an item written by Ann Landers entitled “Be Yourself." Pat Benson won the door prize. Senior Citizens have Easter dinner Sunday The Milford Senior Citizens met Sunday for their Easter dinner at the fire station at 1 pm. Following a meal, served at tables decorated for the occasion, a slide program was given by Lois and Linda Kisner, Warsaw. Both are graduates of Grace College and work with Child Evangeline Mission work around the world. The trip was through Europe and started in London and then Switzerland where they did various work. The business meeting followed Mrs. Kathleen Heath, president, led the pledge to the flag. People were present from Syracuse, Goshen, Bremen, New Paris, Leesburg, Etna Green, Warsaw, Nappanee and Milford. "Happy Anniversary" was sung to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Disher, Etna Green, who celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in March. Mrs. Bernice Longfellow, who had been selected Milford Senior Queen, was escorted to the front by Walter Ritter where Mrs. Bessie Sunthimer placed the crown upon her head. The county contest will be held May 26 in Center Lake Pavilion, Warsaw. The next meeting will be May 9 in the Milford Fire Station. Lakeland Local Mr. and Mrs. Ron Cotton and son Christopher, Warsaw, were hosts for an Easter family gathering Sunday, April 11. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Haney, Milford; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Cotton and Terry, Pierceton; Mr. and Mrs. Galen Haney and Lee, North Webster; Lyle Haney, Ball State University; Lynn Haney, Fort Wayne where she attends Parkview Hospital School of Nursing; David Musselman, Fort Wayne; Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Hawley, Bourbon; Mr. and Mrs. Rick Summerville, and son Timothy, Detroit, Mich. Spiced Picnic Cake Is A Cinch To Make SPICED PICNIC CAKE <3 1 box (18.5 oz.) yellow cake mix . 1 package (4 portion size) instant vanilla pudding and pie filling 1 tablespoon apple pie spice 1 cup diary sour cream 1/3 cup oil 4 eggs Creamy Chocolate Frosting* 2 tablespoons sesame seed Combine dry ingredients in the large bowl of an electric mixer. Add remaining ingredients except Creamy Chocolate Frosting and sesame seed; blend smooth. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour into greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Bake in preheated 35O°F. oven until cake tester comes out clean, about 35 minutes. Cool in pan. Spread Frosting over cake. Place sesame seed in a small skillet over moderate heat; cook and stir until toasted; sprinkle seed over cake. CREAMY CHOCOLATE FROSTING* 1 package (4 portion size) regular cooking chocolate pudding and pie filling / 1 cup milk 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 1/2 cup sugar Prepare chocolate pudding as package directs using only 1 cup milk; cover surface of pudding with waxed paper; cool. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add chocolate pudding 1/3 at a time, beating lightly after each addition. Beat just until smooth (do not overbeat). Yield: One 13x9x2-inch cake. ,

VEGETARIAN EGG ROLLS Makes 16 egg rolls Peanut Oil 2 cups sliced celery 1 cup shredded cabbage 1 cup chopped onion 2 cans (8 oz. each) bamboo shoots, drained 1/2 pound fresh bean sprouts 1 cup grated carrots 2/3 cup chopped mushrooms 1/2 cup chopped green onions 3 tablespoons soy sauce 1 tablespoon finely minced ginger root 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon crushed fresh garlic 16 egg roll skins 1 egg, beaten Heat 3 tablespoons peanut oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add celery, cabbage and onion; stir-fry 11/2 minutes. Add -am bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, carrots, mushrooms and green onions. Continue to stir-fry until all vegetables are tender crisp, about 2 minutes. Stir in soy sauce, ginger root, sugar and garlic. Stir-fry an additional minute, or until soy sauce has evaporated. Remove from heat and cool. Position each egg roll skin so that corners are at

the top, bottom, left and right. Place 1/3 cup filling on the lower section of the skin. Tuck bottom corner around filling and roll firmly about 1/2 way up skin. Moisten the remaining 3 comers with beaten egg. Fold the left and right comers toward the center and complete rolling. Heat a 1 1/2 inch depth of peanut oil in an electric skillet or fry pan to 375°F. Fry egg rolls, a few at a time, for 2 to 3 minutes, turning once, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
