Sechrist Lake to be stocked with trout Early season fishermen will soon get the jump on exciting trout fishing at Sechrist Lake. The Department of Natural Resources will stock 1.000 brown trout late the week of April 4 into Sechrist Lake, near North Webster. According to Jed Pearson, DNR fisheries biologist, the trout, measuring seven to eight inches long, will be released to provide more fishing variety and utilize the good, clean, coldwater fish habitat in Sechrist Lake. Pearson said the trout stocking will also provide Kosciusko County anglers more trout fishing opportunities closer to home. The only other area lake stocked with trout is Wyland Lake, located on the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area. Wyland Lake will also receive 800 trout this week. The trout stocking at Sechrist Lake is part of a co-operative fish improvement program between the DNR, the local property owners association and conservation club to boost fishing in the entire Barbee Lakes Chain. Last fall Irish Lake received 14,000 channel catfish. Additional fish stockings are planned. Trout fishing is best, Pearson said, during the first month after release and it should not be unusual for Sechrist Lake fishermen to catch their daily limit of 10 trout He reminds fishermen that to catch trout an Indiana trout stamp must be attached to a valid fishing license. Sechrist Lake is located west of SR 13 about two and one-half miles and can be reached by boat from the Grassy Creek Public Access Ramp Smith has a bl pitching record at Notre Dame Brian Smith, son of Mr and Mrs. Henry Smith.
