Drunk driving has become cm epidemic

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 50 per cent of all highway fatalities in the United States were killed by drunk drivers last year. They killed an average of one person every day in Indiana, and averaged one person every 30 minutes nation wide. There are very few people who have not known someone who lost a loved one to a drunken driver. There must be tougher laws to stop this slaughter and other related tragedies. Representative Thames Mauzy is proposing mandatory penalties through state legislation. First offenders who fail a breathalyzer test after an arrest for driving while intoxicated would automatically lose their license to drive for a determined length of time. Second offense would automatically be subject to more severe restrictions with a jail sentence. If a fatality is involved" the offender would be retained in jail without bail while awaiting trial. People must learn that drunk driving is a crime said Mauzy. An auto is a deadly weapon in the hands of a drunk driver. The only way of discouraging people from driving while drunk is a law with tough mandatory penalties The enforcement of the State of Maine’s strict law on drunk driving has dropped alcohol KOS. CO.
