Milford sees many changes

“Milford's taken a big change for the better in the last two years and I think it's going to get better as time goes on.’* Milford Town Board President Steve Miller said confidently. Recent goals accomplished by the town board include starting the town's east side sewer project, purchasing a new fire truck, updating the street department with the purchase of a new dump truck and tractor, adding "better trained and better qualified" deputies to the police department and approval of cable television service within the town. The Milford Emergency Medical Service <EMS) moved into a new home in the new Milford Community Building and purchased a new ambulance with funds raised through various EMS activities The Milford Town Board's goals fbr the coming year include completing the sewer project and possibly upgrading some the town's streets, according to Miller A long range goal is the possibility of upgrading the town's water system, but Miller said this will probably not be accomplished in 1982. “Our

Two apartment complex are slated for Milford this year. The 16-unit Leisure Living Apartments, to be located on east Catherine Street, will be federally subsidized and cater to senior citizens. Milford Meadows Apartments is slated for the south side of Section Street and will also be federally subsidized. Sixteen units are being planned. Milford Community Building A big and much-prided addition to the town is the Milford Community Building, located on the west of side Main Street where the old Milford Hotel used to stand.'The Milford Area Development Council (MAD) spearheaded the project and elicited donations and volunteer labor to build this community asset. All the funds to construct the building have come from donations. No government grants were used Several service clubs and organizations are already holding their regular meetings in the new facilities. The Lions Club. Kiwanis Club. BoyScouts, EMS and the Senior Citizens’ Chatter Box have adopted the Milford Community Building as their permanent meeting places. The Community Building currently has

enough chairs to seat 56 persons with the capacity for about 150. However, the Community Building is st ill not completed. According to MAD President Karl Keiper, about SIO,OOO is still needed to complete the structure, including $1,500 for ceiling and lights, $5,000 for the kitchen and SSOO for carpeting. “There are just innumerous little things that need to be done to finish it," stated Keiper at the annual MAD meeting in January. MAD Activities Besides spearheading the Milford Community Building project, MAD is also planning Milford's “Citizens of the Year" Banquet set for Apostolic Church Fellowship Hall. MAD is also planning a repeat of last year’s MAD Merchants' Day on May 29 with games, sales, food and the annual MAD chicken barbecue. MAD's 1982 officers are Karl Keiper. president; Steve Frantz, vice-president; Darrel Dm, treasurer and Melissa Sorensen, secretary. This year, MAD will meet the third Saturday of each month at 9 a m at the Milford Community Building.
