North Webster — the best of both worlds

"The biggest attraction in North Webster is the lake.” says Howard Bemish, North Webstar's Town Board President It brings summer residents for vacations and in the winter snowmobiling has become a big thing. The Mermaid Festival is still the number one attraction offered at North Webster. People come from all over the nation for the parade and the 37th annual. this year, promises to be as popular as ever Lakeland Snowmobile Club hosted its fifth annual Winter Carnival and, although the weather forced the event to be held on two week ends, the turnout was good for all events. New things have been happening in North Webster. In March of 1980 the library officially opened in town. It represents the dedicated efforts of many residents of North Webster and Tippecanoe Township, and, just this year, the library has become self supporting.

In the summer of 1980, after petitions to the state from townspeople, letters from school children, and many requests. SR 13 was repaved through North Webster Just at the outskirts of North Webster, on the lake, the well-known Dixie Camp is undergoing some changes. The camp has a new owner, who has remodeled the area, making efficiency-type motel accommodations. He hopes to enlarge even further, equipping the facility for handicapped persons, and draw even more visitors to the area According to Bemish, “the people of North Webster live in the best of both worlds." They have a small town atmosphere. with an excellent school system, an academy trained police force and dedicated fire and EMS personnel North Webster is a good place to live, also, because it is near the lakes but within driving distance of large towns, such as Fort Wayne and South Bend.
