Q. My father is planning on setting np his oun bookkeeping business following his retirement this month. He is going to need some basic office equipment, and I would like to buy a printing calculator. What should 1 consider before making a choice? A. The modern printing calculator grew out of America’s fascination with small, hand-held calculators. However, business persons, bookkeepers, and other number-conscious types needed away to check their sums and presto, the printing calculators were born. Printing calculators range in price from SSO to $l7O and in size from handheld to large “heavy-duty" models. In addition, you’ll have three types of printing mechanisms to choose from, impact, thermal, and electric discharge. Impact printers are made up of a series of wheels made of plastic or metal with raised character Two systems are used to print numbers: in the first there is a number ‘ wheel for each digit position; the second features a single wheel which is stepped across the line, rotating to the proper number positions and then striking the paper This latter method is relatively slow, and may subject the single wheel to extra stress; avoid that. The thermal printer is second only to the impact printer in popularity. It uses a speciallycoated paper which is selectively heated at specific point locations The point pattern is called a dot matrix and can produce a full set of numbers and symbols. To print a line of digits, an arm containing a small stylus sweeps across the and be heard upon the petition at th* time, date and place above scheduled tor hearing and or may send written comments or response to the Auditor of Kosciusko County. Indiana prior to the above time and date set tor hearing After bearing the petition may be granted, denied or continued and Or dinance may be introduced and passed according to law WITNESS MY HAND AND SEAL OF THE COMMISSIONERS OF KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, THIS 11th DAY OF FEBRUARY. 1982 Jean Northenor Auditor Koeciusko County VALENTINE & WALMER A Professional Corporation By James L Waimer Attorney s tor Petit toners P O Box 1035 82? paper and in a precisely controlled manner, heats it at just the right point. The thermal printing paper is heat sensitive. You’ll need to keep it away from direct sunlight, lamps, furnaces, and other sources of heat. If your father needs to keep his worktapes, don’t forget that thermal printing paper will also tend to fade and yellow after about 30 days. To keep them permanently, they must be mounted on a paper base and stored in a tight receptable. The electric discharge printer is the newest type on the market It uses a silvery, metal-coated paper, and operates just like a thermal printer. Instead of heat, however, it uses an electric discharge to burn the digits into the metallic surface. Only the a impact printer uses standard adding machine paper The others require a special, more expensive paper. However, the impact adder uses ink ribbons or an inked cartridge to print... so the cost may be counterbalanced. Talk to your retailer. He or she can show you a wide range of models, in a wide range of prices Ask all the questions you want You’ll then be able to buy your father the calculator he needs No more stains To remove white water stains from coffee tables or wooden floors, try rubbing a little petroleum jelly into the stain every day. Journey on the Rhine to be featured March 4
Kiwanis Clubs of Lakeland. Milford and Syracuse will present the fourth program of the Travel and Adventure Film Series Thursday evening. March 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wawasee High School Auditorium. “Journey On the Rhine,” by Lee Cavanagh will be the program. The travelogue profession comes naturally to Cavanagh. In fact, it would perhaps have been unusual if he had not chosen this line of work. He has beep actively involved in motion picture photography for as long as he can remember and he spent many years before the public as a CBS Television personality in Saint Louis, Mo. Cavanagh and his wife, Lily, formerly owned a popular midwest travel agency and they still lead group tours each year to interesting parts of the world. All of these experiences directed Cavanagh to his present role of travel and adventure filmmaker. Cavanaghs, who present the musical portion of their production, have worked together on photographic journeys to all of the world’s continents. - They have visited 36 countries and have crossed the Atlantic 46 times by air and ship. The traveling itself however, only partially satisfies a travelogue artist like Cavanagh It is through the medium of film that he can share the beauty and adventure of his own experiences with an audience. The sharing gives meaning and completion to the creative effort of travelogue filmmaking, particularly with a subject as special as “Journey On The Rhine.” “Journey On The Rhine” begins on the rooftop of Europe, amid the mountain peaks and glaciers of spectacular Switzerland. The birthplace of the upper Rhine is high up in melting Alpine snows at Thomas See. The -story of the Rhine gradually unfolds, down through Switzerland, to Lake Constance, to

mighty Schaffhausen Falls and past a corner of France at Strasbourg. The Rhine flows on into Germany and becomes the “romantic” Rhine with huge cities and magnificant old castles competing for the traveler’s attention. Finally, the Rhine makes its way through the pic-ture-book towns, and ancient windmills of Holland to the North Sea. Along the way, experience the beauty and vitality of this great LEECAVANAGH river. Alpine glory shifts to cosmopolitan excitement in cities like Basel. Cologne, Dusseldorf, nearby Heidelberg on the Necker and Rotterdam. The picturesque villages of the Black Forrest contrast with bustling cities like Bonn, capital of West Germany and the birthplace of Beethoven. Most of all, meet the people of this region. Share their concerns and aspirations wheather they be Swiss wood-carvers or Black Forest brides. Participate in a classic journey and also learn the story of the Rhine's role in Europe during the turbulant 1980’S.
