Wawasee music students win honors

Wawasee High School band students received 15 firsts and six seconds at the solo and ensemble contest held Saturday, Jan. 30, at Wawasee High School. Individually there were 24 gold and eight silver medals given to students who competed in groups one through four. In group one all entries receiving first place will represnt Wawasee at the state contest in Indianapolis on Saturday. Feb. 20. Webster students win honors At the solo and ensemble contest held at Wawasee High School. Jan. 30, North Webster Junior High Band students received nine firsts and five seconds, bringing home 19 gold and eight silver medals to the junior high school. All students participated in group four. Receiving firsts were: Beth Bonner and Drew Parr, alto sax solos; Mike Eastman, trombone solo; Eric Metcalf and Nathan Rhodes, tenor sax and bass clarinet duet; Steve Rozow and Jamie Prescott, tenor sax and bass clarinet duet; Kelly McKown, Kelly Mort, Nathan Rhodes and Drew Parr, saxophone quartet; Jamie Prescott, Eric Metcalf, Nathan Rhodes and Steve Rozow. tenor sax and bass clarinet quartet; Tim Enright and Marty Bixler, trumpet duet; and Michelle Miller and Mike Eastman, trombone duet Those receiving seconds were: Tina Kruger. The main speaker of the evening was Charles Haffner, principal of the Syracuse Junior High. Haffner has been instrumental in organizing and sponsoring the Syracuse Builders Club the past five years. He commented on the impact this club has had on the school and community and challenged each North Webster member to get involved in individual as well as group projects to make a better word in which to live. Registration continues at Wawasee Marilynne Curtis, guidance director at Wawasee High School, reminds interested persons of the eighth grade parents* nights which are scheduled as follows: North Webster — February 15 at 7 p.m. Syracuse — February 18 at 7 p.m. High school student registration will begin this week. Any parent who wishes a conference with a counselor regarding the scheduling of their child should feel free to call the high school for an appointment. Love is Loving your grandma and Webster Girl Scouts z Brownies, Cub Scouts plan carnival The Girl Scouts, Brownies and Cub Scouts in North Webster are planning a Saint Patrick’s Day carnival Wednesday, March 17, at Camelot Hall in North Webster. The carnival will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will include concessions, face painting, jewelry engraving and other activities. Tickets will be sold at the door and all proceeds from the carnival will go to the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Library Organizers of the carnival are Anita Sincroft and Sue Mitchell.
