Seven wrestlers qualify for regional competition
The East Noble Sectional, held on Thursday. Feb 4. because of rescheduling, had five first place champions from W awasee The Warriors also had two second place winners, who also qualified for the regional tournes on Saturday. Feb 6 First place winners for
Gary Gerencser wins regional wrestling title Gary Gerencser. 119 pounds, will be the only wrestler for Wawasee traveling to the regional at Fort Wayne Saturday. Gerencser. 22-2 over the season, won the East Noble Sectional Thursday and defeated three tough opponents at the Fort Wayne regional on Saturday at Carroll H*gh School. In the first round Gerencser pinned Dave Doyle of Concordia in 2:30 and won by decision over James Holman. 12-4. Holman is from Fort Wayne Wayne. in the final match Gerencser defeated previously unbeaten Dan Schreiger of Carroll S-S. Todd Reiff. IKS pounds, of Wawasee placed third at regional and heavyweight Pat Morganthaier placed fourth. Losing first round matches were Chuck Cotton. Jeff Glon. Mike Hernandel and John Stockman. PE class testing skills Carolyn Bakers physical education classes at Milford Junior High have been busy performing skill tests in basketball All the girls in grades five through eighth are participating in the four tests that include wall passing, speed spot shooting, defensive movement drill and a dribbling drill for speed and agility. The purpose of the testing is to collect normative data that will be used to make revisions in the Basketball Skills Test of the American Association of Health. Physical Education. Recreation and Dance <AAHPERD». The AAHPERD works in conjunction with the University of Texas in distributing and collecting the information from the various schools throughout the country Milford Junior High will receive the test results and the information from the nationwide testing this coming spring Sixers slide by Nets Philadelphia 76ers slid by the New Jersey Nets. 116-112 in a National Basketball Association victory Friday evening. Syracuse advances to second round in tourney
The Syracuse Yellow Jackets came out shooting in the opening games of the Camelot Tourney Saturday. Feb 6. and blazed their way into the second round Both the Syracuse boys and girls' basketball teams defeated the Milford Trojans In the girls' game, the Trojans could not hit a basket in the opening quarter. In their haste to score, thev threw up several air balls and the taller Yellow Jackets rebounded well and drove down to score It was the first defeat for Milford's girts this season as the Jackets won 23-14. At the end of the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets were ahead 11-0 and scored again m the second quarter before Milford could find the range Lori

The Yellow Jackets led 15-+ at halftime and the second half became a slow game Beckie Wehy scored six points and Dawn Coy added five for Syracuse. Sue Free led Milford with six points while Steff Swihart and Michelle Redsiob added two each. Boys* Game The boys’ game was an exciting contest for one quarter. The Trojans jumped off to an early lead and were behind by only four points, 13-9, after six minutes. But the excitement ended there. David Kistler fired in nine points in the second quarter and
Rod Aaron and Jon Evans controlled the backboards as the Yellow Jackets scored 17 unanswered points. Aaron added five points to boost Syracuse into a 30-9 lead at hall time The Yellow Jackets were even hotter in the third period as Brad Travidia hit five baskets and his teammates added 11 points to give Syracuse a 21-point quarter. Entering the final quarter ahead 51-15,“ Syracuse Coach Galen Hershberger rested Kistler, but the Yellow Jackets continued to build their lead. All five Yellow Jacket starters scored six points or more in the game. Traviolia led with 21 points, Aaron adding 14, Kistler 13, Price Pounds eight and Jon Evans six.

The Syracuse girls will oppose Pierceton at 6 p.m. followed by the Syracuse boys against South Whitley at 7:15 p.m. The finals will be played Thursday, Feb. 11. Celtics over Nuggets Robert Parish made a jumper from the foul line with two seconds left to end a 33-point performance giving the Boston Celtics a 145-144 National Basketball Association victory over the Denver Nuggets Friday evening, Feb. 5.
