Victory for Warriors is conference win
By SHARON STOCKMAN The first conference game of the season was a Wawasee victory Friday as the Warnors defeated Concord 8049. The Warriors are now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference Kent Stichter got the first score for Wawasee and put six points on the board in the first quarter Concord had two men with five points each in the first penod. Swoape and Staggs. Brian Geiger also scored six for the Warriors in the first period and Kirk Stichter and Jeff Long each had two. The score at the end of the first quarter was Wawasee 16. Concord 14. The Warriors pulled out ahead in the second quarter. In that period Jay Auer came off the Wawasee bench and surprised the Concord defense, scoring nine points for Wawasee. Dec 14. at 6:15. Mathews wins trophy at Whitko Cary Mathews won the only trophy of the day fw the Warriors on Saturday. Dec 5. when the junior varsity wrestling team competed at an invitational tourney at Whitko Mathews had the most pins in the least amount of time In all. Concord also scored 21. giving the Warnors the win by 11 points. Jay Auer was injured m the fourth quarter and junior Kevin Smith came off the bench to do a fine job in taking Ins place. Jeff Long was leading scorer for Wawasee. with 20 points, Kent Stichter scored 19 and Jay Auer 15, so the Warnors were well represented on offensive plays. Trojans lose The Milford Trojans suffered losses in recent basketball games The sixth grade boys suffered a double defeat Wednesday. Dec 2. when Nappanee beat both the A and B teams The score for the A team game was 14-23 and the B team's final score was 10-18 The seventh grade team lost 2628 in a close game with Warsaw Tuesday. Dec 1 The seventh graders were leading most of the game until Warsaw pulled ahead with only 50seconds to go. Leading rebounder and scorer was Harvey Melendez Terry Ryman also turned in a good allaround game Warsaw walloped the eighth grade team 50-16. into the basket In girls' games, and often in boys' basketball, more defensive rebounds are made that offensive Overall this season Wawasee's girls have a record of more offensive rebounds than defensive and a good percentage of those offensive rebounds have been converted into baskets In the first quarter Wawasee got a four-point lead and by halftime had w idened that lead to seven, with a score of 28 to 21 The girls from Wawasee seemed to really miss the good shooting of Grace Stichter, who had been ill Even though she played she did not score w ell The Wawasee bench was often used throughout the evening and worked well to keep up a total teamwork game The Westview girls were strong on the boards but were held down by strong defense from Wawasee in the third quarter Wawasee scored 11 points but West viewscored 17 and at the end of that period Wawasee led by only one. 3938 In the fourth quarter Westview pulled out for a quick lead and was soon ahead by five. Lee Schacht stole the ball, with little time left in the game Maude Packer got a field goal to put Wawasee within three and the Wawasee defense held the Westview girls scoreless Carol Walker was fouled, missed the shot, but her sister. Cheryl, rebounded and quickly scored putting Wawasee within one with seconds left on the clock Westview turned over the ball and Cheryl Walker moved quickly to the Wawasee end of the gym. With one second left on the clock Cheryl shot and just as the buzzer sounded the bail dropped through the hoop to give Wawasee the one point victory. The win gives the girls an unbeaten season thus far. Maude Packer did an outstanding job on rebounds for Wawasee with 19 against Westview. Twelve of these were offensive and seven defensive. Maude converted two of these rebounds to scores

Warsaw athletic director Gene Butts reminds Wawasee fans that all Warsaw tickets are for reserved seats and persons are required to sit in their designated seat. The pre-sale will be held in the Wawasee athletic office from 8 am. to 3 pm. for $1.50 for students and $2 for adults. Tickets at the door will be $2 for everyone. The junior varsity game will begin at 6:15 with the varsity game at 8 p.m. There will be a pre-sale of tickets for the fan bus at each of the junior high schools and at the athletic office at the high school on Friday. Tickets are sl. AU students wishing to ride the bus must have a ticket to assure a ride. The bus will leave Milford at 5 15, Syracuse at 5:30 and North Webster at 5:45 p.m. Triton Saturday A pre-sale of student tickets only will be held in the athletic office on Friday for the Triton game at Wawasee on Saturday. Student tickets are $1.25. Tickets at the door will be $2 for adults and $1.50 for students K-8 if accompanied by an adult. The JV game will start at 6:15 p.m. with the varsity game starting at 8 p.m.
