On December 27, 1935. she married Arnold Hall She had lived in the Syracuse-North Webster area all her life Mrs Hall was a cook at several area restaurants and was a member of the Zion Chapel United Brethren Church Survivors include her husband, Arnold; six daughters. Oct; 23, with chest pains A 73-year-old female was transported from Goshen Hospital to the Lakeland Loring Care Center on Saturday. Oct. 24 On Sunday, Oct. 25. a 45-year-old man. involved in an auto accident, and a 32-year-old woman, who was also involved in an auto accident, were taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital. On Monday. Oct. 26. an 86-year-old man was transported from the Lakeland Loving Care Center to Goshen Hospital. The ambulance crew responded to a call Wednesday, Oct. 28, when a 45-year-old man had a possible fractured ankle. He was taken to Goshen Hospital. A 37-year-old woman was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital with a possible broken foot on Thursday. Oct 30. after a fall On Saturday. Oct. 31. a 70-year-old man was taken to Goshen
Umbaugh was born in Union Township In 1943 he married Mary Louise Scrannage in Alexandria. La Surviving are his widow, a son. Michael M., Nappanee; a daughter, Mrs Steve Eldridge. Elmer Regier officiated Burial followed in New Paris cemtery Vera Monk Dec. 19.1915 — Oct. 28.1981 Vera R. Monk. 65. r 1 box 373 Syracuse, died October 29 at 11.50 p.m. in the Goshen Hospital. She had been in failing health recently. Mrs. Monk was born December 19. 1915. to Verne and Hazel Wyatt, in Spencerville. On May 3, 1934, she married Glenn Monk, who survives. In addition to her husband, other survivors include two sons, Larry Monk, Warsaw, and Richard Monk. Burket; one sister, Mrs. Beulah McConnell, Alamo. Texas; two brothers. Maurice Wyatt. South Bend, and Russell Wyatt, Tuscon. Ariz.; and five grandchidren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Harris Funeral Home. Syracuse. Columbia City, following an extended illness Bom in Jasonville on July 6, 1906. he was the son of William H. and Eliza M (Lammey) Fry He had owned and operated a service station in Anderson several years before retiring in 1971 and moving to Leesburg Fry was a member of the Whetstone Brotherhood and Sisterhood. Surviving are his widow. Mary; one daughter, Mrs Donald (Patricia) Tompkins of Anderson; one son. Marion U*Bud”) Fry of Leesburg; two sisters, Mrs Paul (Esther 1 Ashcraft of Galien. He had possible internal injuries. On Tuesday. Nov. 2. the ambulance responded to a call from a 33-year-old female who was in the first stage of labor. She was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital. Later in the day the ambulance responded to a motorcycle-car accident. There was no transport from the accident. Syracuse EMS Syracuse EMS made an ambulance run on October 28 at 8:08 p.m They were called by Jim Hamman, age 81. to his home at r 1 box 283 W Syracuse Mr Hamman became ill and was transported to Goshen Hospital.

Mrs. Richards resided in Syracuse most of her life. She was a homemaker. Surviving are four sons, Joseph, Larry, Dennis, and Mark, all of Syracuse; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Opal) Nicolai. Syracuse; one brother, Emerson Ott, Goshen. Two sisters, Jean Fisher and Mavis Newcomer preceded her in death. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Harris Funeral Home. Services will be Thursday, Nov. 5, at 10:30 a m. at Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Norman McVay officiating. Burial will follow at Solomon's Creek cemetery. Elkhart County. There were two sets of wedding bands, a gold ladies' wristwatch. 10 miscellaneous rings. 20 record albums and 20 tapes were taken She told police entry was made by breaking out a screen in the kitchen The home had been ransacked. Lunch stolen Kathi Birkel. 313 South Lake Street. Syracuse, contacted police at 1:01 p.m. on October 28 to report that her son s lunch had been stolen from the Syracuse Junior High School on October 26. also taken was the container and a thermos bottle. On October 27 her son's lunch was again stolen, this time in a paper bag. The boy's lunch was in his locker, which had no lock. It had an estimated value of sll. Milford teen uninjured as car hits tree Lori L Baker. 17, r 1 Milford, was uninjured when her auto struck a tree Sunday morning. Nov. 1, at 8:10am The accident occurred in Elkhart County on CR 56 west of CR 29 According to Elkhart County Sheriff's Ptl. Philip Crewson, Miss Baker was eastbound on CR 56 and swerved at a hillcrest to avoid an oncoming auto driven by James Dial, Milford. Her 1973 Oldsmobile Omega missed the Dial vehicle and skidded 72 feet into a tree. Damage was set at more than S2OO. Boat taken A motor boat was reported taken from the Sechrist Lake home of Doug E. Meville last week. No value has been placed on the boat by county police. Defense building windows broken Tom Gilbert, 237 W. North Street, Syracuse, contacted police October 27 at 4:34 p.m., advising that there were two windows broken out at the Civil Defense balding, 100 Dolan Drive, by children playing ball. Also some windows were shot and broken. The value of the windows is unknown.

MOTORCYCLE CAR COLLIDE — Daniel L. Ditton. 36. r 6 Warsaw, declined treatment following a motorcycle car accident. Monday afternoon. Nov. 2. on SR 15. According to police. Ditton was northbound on SR 15 and went to pass three stopped vehicles when his cycle hit a car driven by Milford Marshal David Hobbs. Hobbs reported he signaled for a left turn into the parking lot at Dr. Frank Wadas'. Milford, when he stopped for a southbound auto. Once the auto was passed Hobbs reported he looked again and started to turn when the motorcycle passed him on the left. "Diere were two other autos stopped behind Hobbs when the accident occurred. Milford Police estimated up to S2OO damage to both the 1980 Kawasiki motorcycle and to Hobbs* auto. No citations were given. (Photos by Deb Fox)

Gerber. 28, r 3 box 489 Syracuse, suffered an injury to his left foot during a motorcycle-car accident Monday, Nov. 2, at 18:25 a.m. The accident occurred at the intersection of Huntington Street (SR 13) and Chicago Street in Syracuse. Gerber was southbound on Huntington Street when an auto driven by Callie B. Cantrell, r 4 Greenhaus Apartments. Syracuse, struck his cycle. According to Police Mrs. Cantrell was west on Chicago Street, stopped for the stop sign and proceeded across the intersection, not seeing the motorcycle. Youthpower conference set for November 5-6
“Youthpower,' an organization dedicated to educating our future consumers about food production and economics, food techniques, nutrition and related careers will hold the 22nd annual Youthpower Conference November 5 and 6. Approximately 100 high-school age delegates are expected to attend the meeting at the Indianapolis Airport Hilton Delegates are asked to participate in the two-day conference as outstanding representatives of youth organizations throughout Indiana They are selected on the basis of leadership and communication abilities After the conference, delegates will be asked to share their know ledge of food and nutrition with various community and church groups, as well as school classes through public speaking and other projects. Organizations invited to send participants are the 4-H Club Junior Leaders, Future Farmers of America (FFA), Indiana Sunshine Society, Camp Fire Girls (Horizon Clubs). Explorers. Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA), Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA), Indiana Rural Youth. Future Homemakers of America (FHA». Health Career Clubs of Indiana. Girl Scouts of the USA. Office Education Association <OEA). Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA> and Junior Achievement <JA). Milford men booked for theft James Allen Manges, 18 and Fred Emanuel Kuhn. 39. both of Milford, were booked at the Kosciusko County Jail on charges of burglary and theft. Manges and Kuhn were arrested Wednesday, Oct. 28. by the Indiana State Police in connection with a break-in at the Wayne Sholtey farm, r 3 Syracuse, earlier in the week. Kuhn is charged with two counts of burglary and theft while Manges is charged with burglary and theft. The pair broke into a metal quonset hut on the Sholtey farm and took more than SI,OOO worth of tools. Sholtey reported the theft on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Charges may also be pending against several other individuals according to police. Get 'em off Remove scorch marks from clothes after ironing by applying a little hydrogen peroxide to the area and then washing the clothes in hot water.
