Christian school administrator to speak at Milford church
The Milford Christian Church will host a community-wide meeting for those interested in a Christian School in this area The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. l&in the sanctuary of the Christian Church, corner of Fourth and Henry Streets. Allen Hughes, the speaker, is the school administrator of the Kingsway Christian School in Indianapolis. Mr. Hughes is a graduate of Milligan College, Tennessee and has had experience in teaching and school Lady's bike stolen Paul Stouder. 406 Parkway Dr Syracuse, reported to Syracu~ police a lady's bike was taken from the residence. Stouder notified police at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept 30 The value of the bike was listed between $35 and SSO.
Post offices' schedule for Columbus Day The Syracuse. Milford and North Webster post offices will operate on a holiday schedule Columbus Day. Monday. Oct. 12. Postmasters Anthony J. Rudasics at Syracuse and Imogene Menzie at North Webster stated there will be no regular residential or business mail deliveries and usual post office lobby services will not be available with the exception of the lockbox service. The lockbox section will be open from 7 a m t04:30p.m. Milford Postmaster Charles Spillman said window service will be closed and there will be no rural mail delivery. The post office will be receiving mail dispatch, though. The lobby will be open for lockbox customers from7a m toSp.m. Mail pick-up from collection boxes in all three communities will also be on a holiday schedule as posted on individual boxes. Normal mail service will resume Tuesday. Oct. 13. Social Security check missing Myrna Harting. • 518 South Harrison St., Syracuse, reported for her uncle. Charles Harpe-, a lost social security check She called Syracuse police at 8 a m.. Saturday. Oct. 3. She told police that sometime between 10and 10:45 p.m. Friday evening. Oct . 2, her uncle s social security check was lost and probably stolen. Harper believes he lost the check somewhere between the uptown city parking lot and the alley beside the Reid's Auto Parts store on East Main Street. When Harper discovered the check was missing, he and his niece returned to the area to search, but found nothing. NlPSCodoor found open In making nightly rounds Syracuse Police Officer Corky Wong found a back door opened easily Wednesday morning at 1:45 a m. at the Northern Indiana Public Service Company office at 105 E. Main Street. Nothing was reported missing. Officer Wong pushed open the rear door of the office and entered the building to see if there was anyone in the building but found no one. He did find an open window in the back of the building The office manager was called to check the contents of the building Motorcycle plate reported lost - Norbert Overholser, r 5 box 382 Syracuse, reported to Syracuse Police on Wednesday, Sept. 30, that he lost his motorcycle plate. Overholser told police he lost the plate five days earlier. Police received the report at 10:43 a.m.

USDA accepting applicants grain inspection agency The US Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for an agency to perform official grain inspection services in central Indiana, according to an official of USDA’s Federal Grain Inspection Service. J. T. Abahier, director of the FGIS compliance division, said the Indianapolis Grain Inspection and Weighing Service, Inc., Indianapolis, was designated in November 1978 as an official agency to inspect grain under the US. Grain Standards Act. The agency’s designation expires on March 31, 1982, and the act provides that it may be renewed, but only after other interested parties have been given a chance to apply. The applicant better able to perform inspection services will be selected by USDA, Abshiersaid. Existing or proposed agencies wishing to apply for the designation can obtain application forms and information from James R Conrad, Compliance Division, 2405 Auditors Bldg., FGIS-USDA, Washington, D C., 20250. Applications are due by November 2, and should be mailed to the same address. The applicant selected to perform official inspection services in central Indiana will do so until March 31,1985, when its designation will terminate. Notice of the termination and request for applicants was scheduled to be published in the October 1 Federal Register.
Meek announces retirement, to join travel agency
Robert L. Meeks, 47, LaGrange, former commander of the Ligonier State Police Post, announced his retirement from the post Tuesday, Sept. 29. His last working day will be Friday, Oct. 9. In his letter to State Police Superintendent John Shettle, Pine Lake, Meeks stated: “It is with deep regret that I must tender this letter of retirement from the Indiana State Police Department The recent unfair developments in my career, which are adversely affecting my job performance and my personal health, has brought me to this decision. This department has always been utmost in my mind as being the number one policing agency in this state and I have worked and dedicated my tenure to that commitment. My last working day will be October 9,1981,” signed Robert L. Meeks. He stated his retirement was announced because of reasons stated in the letter and the fact he had a chance to go into the private sector with a job offer. He will be working with Concord World Travel. Concord Mall, in all aspects of the business. In December 1980 Meeks was demoted as commander of the post following an accident with an Amish horse and buggy’. On Monday. Aug 17. Meeks appeared before the State Police Review Board but has not received official notice of the findings He added the only information he has received has been from the media stating he was cleared of the drunk driving charge and of improper supervision of subordinates. The charge of negligent destruction of state property stands. The board Silver Thimbles to moke quilt The Silver Thimble Club of the Milford Apostolic Christian Church met with the club President Mrs Alvin Haab on Monday evening. Oct. 5. Mrs. Arnold Doll served as co-hostess for the evening Mrs. Haab presided over the business meeting in which the reports were given by Mrs. Tom Speicher, secretary, and Mrs Rich Stoller, treasurer. It was decided a quilt will be made during the winter and a public auction sale will be held in March at the church hall. Part of the money made at the food sale that was held on Saturday, Oct. 3. will be given to Ned Speicher, principal of the Milford Elementary School, to assist the needy children “Happy Birthday” was sung to Mrs. Philip Beer. Mrs Carlton Beer and Mrs. Ray Haab. “Happy Anniversary” was sung to Mrs. Carlton Beer Mrs. Arthur Haab read an article on Halloween and the group sang the hymn “The Solid Rock.” Refreshments were served consisting of cream puff pastries filled with chicken salad and hors d’oeuvres from the dining room table decorated with a Jack O'Lantern centerpiece. There were 18 members and two guests, Mrs Oliver Haab and Mrs. Louis Rassi. present. Mrs Nelson Beer received a bronze mum plant as a door prize. Mrs. Stoller of r 5 Syracuse will be hostess for the next meeting scheduled for November 2.

had a two-to-two vote with one member of the board abstaining. Meeks stated that he has contacted his attorney, John Ruckelhaus, who will file an administrative appeal in a trial court in Marion County as soon as both Meeks and Ruckelhaus receive the official opinion from the State Police Board. Car-Buggy Crash During Meeks’ time off he had an accident with an Amish rig on the night of October 24,1980, and was cleared of all blame at that time. On December 5 he received notice from Shettle that he was demoted as commander of the post to staff line sergeant and was suspended for five days without pay. Shettle also charged him with drunken driving, negligent destruction of state property and improper supervision of his Subordinates. He and three detectives had taken time off to play golf that afternoon. They all had time off due them because of overtime. Meeks contended that as commander of the post, he had the right to allow the men to take their overtime off. He himself had several weeks overtime built up. 2 counts of theft against Karen Hire Karen L. Hire, 25, r 3 box 664 Syracuse, has had charges of two counts of thqft. class D felonies, filed against her. The charges allege that amounts of about $962 and $707.70 were taken from Shasta Industries. Goshen. The case is set for plea negotiations October 28. Mrs. Hire was charged with theft approximately one week ago after Coachmen Industries auditors turned up a shortage of several thousand dollars from Shasta Industries funds. She made a statement admitting the thefts and offered to make restitution. She appeared in a probable cause hearing in Elkhart County Court, Goshen division, and posted $3,000 bond. Jeep strikes car Ricky A. Hollar, 19, r 2 Milford, was involved in a two-car accident on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11:11 a.m. on East Center Street, east of Buffalo Street, Warsaw. According to Warsaw City Police Hollar's Jeep struck the rear of a car driven by Roger L. Vore, 39, 31 Isleview Dr., Winona Lake. Damage to the Vore vehicle was estimated up to $2,500 while the Hollar vehicle sustained less than S2OO damage. Londa Harris taken to KCH following one-vehicle crash Londa L. Harris, 18, r 1 North Webster, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, following a one-vehicle accident at 6:58 a.m., at the intersection of Armstrong Road and Baseline Road, Thursday. Oct. 1. She was treated and released. She told Kosciusko County Police she attempted to round the curve but her brakes failed, causing her to lose control of the auto. The car hit a Northern Indiana Public Service Company pole. Damage to the vehicle was estimated up to $2,500
