Barbee Club plans clean-up day Oct. 3 A carry-in dinner highlighted the recent meeting of Barbee Conservation club. Tables were decorated in a garden motif with fall colors predominating. Clean-up day is planned for 8 am, October 3. All members are asked to participate. The business session was called to order by Frank Moser, president. Elsie Steiner read the minutes of the last meeting Harold Henry gave the treasurers’ report. association, announced that the locks at Grassy Creek dam have been repaired. The Barbee Lakes are now being stocked with fish by the conservation department. Catfish have been put in Irish Lake, trout in Sechrist and walleye in all of the Barbee Chain. Muskies will be put in Big Barbee. A program was given by Arnie Carr of Tri County Game Preserve and Randy Most, president of the Indiana Wild Life Federation. Most reported on state conservation areas. Carr gave a history of the Tri-County Preserve. He noted that it contains 3,500 acres. Com is planted as food for wild life. There were 64 members and nine guests present at the meeting. Guests were: Marilyn Bruse, Marie and Dale Fawley, George and Gwen Sower. Marie Downie, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Gaston and Lonnie Petit. New members are: Brian Collins. Cathy Smith. Roger and Dottie Allen. Terry and Mary Anderson. Margaret Welker and Jim and Marilyn Brown. Secret committee is chosen An ice cream dessert was served when members of Country Neighbors Extension Homemakers met September 23 at the home of Marilyn Staton. Roberta Gregory read a poem entitled, “For More Love.” A secret committee was picked for the club Christmas party. Plans for the event and the destination are to be kept secret until time for the party. The topic of Beth Lamb's garden remarks was “Fall Cover Crops." Mrs. Staton gave the health and safety lesson. She discussed. “Emergency Phone Numbers.” During the business session members were reminded of upcoming fall activities. A menu was decided on for the January president's council meeting. The evening was spent working
on items for the Christmas bazaar. Cathy Rodgers is chairman of the Christmas bazaar project. Kathy Stookey will be hostess for the October meeting. Fall trip topic for hobby dub Goldie Hunnicutt was hostess for the September 24 meeting of Tippecanoe Township Hobby club. Plans were discussed for fall trips. Tickets for the fall luncheon were distributed. Time was spent working on items for the Christmas bazaar. Ruth Dunker displayed a child’s quilt that she was finishing. Other projects included: tatting, knitting, crocheting, rug hooking and general arts and crafts. A sack lunch was served at noon. Monkey bread, ice cream and nut cake were served by the hostess. Golden Aprils meet at Adkins Diana Adkins was a guest at the September 22 meeting of Golden April Club. The ladies
met at the home of Polly Adkins. Devotions entitled, "What Is A Mother?” were given by Connie Crawford. Group singing was led by Gloria Brubaker. The lesson “Alcohol and Drug Abuse" was led bv Gail Martin. Nancy Barker explained the dangers of letting small children play with hot water faucets. Syracuse woman charged with theft of $5,666 from Shasta
Karen L. Hire. 25. r 3 box 664 Syracuse, was charged with theft, a class D felony, last week, after Coachmen Industries auditors turned up a shortage of several thousand dollars from Shasta Industries funds She made a statement admitting the thefts and offered to make restitution. She appeared in a probably cause hearing in Elkhart County Court. Goshen division and posted $3,000 bond. Formal charges needed to be

Coachmen, which owns Shasta, made a recent routine audit that found a discrepancy in funds. Auditors made the theft report to Goshen Police Friday. Sept. 18. Coachmen auditors are continuing the investigation with Goshen Detectives Ron Zentz and Larry Sarver.
