Milford's Main Street

OUR PHOTO this week is another waned to us by Leelani Nemeth of Syracuse and is another of Milford Day This one is dated 1907-1908 We had a lot of fan looking for people we know but couldn't find any. Happy hunting! -0WE RECENTLY received a note from Grace Jane Brebner on the photo of Miss Pinkerton with her first and second grades of 1909 Mrs Brebner was a member of theclass and identified herself as well as many of the other youngsters in the photo She tells us the second graders are in back while the first graders are in the front. Her sister Helen was in the second grade and she was a guest that day 'for some reason) since she was only five with her sixth birthday coming up on June 1. In the front row with Grace, with the white bow and white dress, Dorothy Doty. Alvin Hartter, Arden Martin. John Lentz. Lloyd( Peanuts ’) Archer and Eldon Hurd Gwendolyn Martin was older, and not in the picture, according to Mrs. Brebner who can not remember her age. She does, however, recall she was Gwendolyn Carris before she married Harry Martfai. Mrs. Brebner also recalled Gwendolyn’s sister. Trella. who was older and taught school for a number of years. —oA DONT FORGET the firemen s annual chicken barbecue next Sunday Serving will be from 11:30am unti!3pm and will be carry-outs only again this year The event, held on the first Sunday of National Fire Prevention Week, wdl be held at the fire station -O'school WAS dismissed in Our Town last Wednesday when a water mam broke and the water department flooded, leaving the town without water for several hours

School was dismissed at 18a.m. because of the lack of water. H ater had been turned on prior to that time but Conley told school officiate the repairs at that time were only temporary and recommended classes be dismissed. The problem was caused when the town's tower was drained and water normally coming from the tower was pumped directly into the system A service hose broke at the water department budding on North Main Street between 6 and 8:30 a m and a water main on Emeline Street, just west of .Mam Street, also broke ; The broken hose caused flooding of the basement and by 7:38 a.m. water was shut off and many homes and businesses found themselves at a standstill. -o— REVIVAL SERVICES continue tonight (Wednesday) and Thursday at 730 pm at the Christian Church All are invited to attend and hear Deryll Springer's messages on the Word of God and join in music lead by Jim and Jenny Snyder Sprunger comes to Milford from Canton. Os course, most are aware of the new construction currently underway on the Milford Junior High School at the elementary school grounds. Classrooms are also being added to the elementary school to allow fifth graders to be boused in that building instead of the junior high Anyone visiting The M-J office can not but help hear and see the construction of the new offices and mailing room here Evans Family Store has moved to its new location at the north end of the business Hock and the First National Bank will soon begin work at Evans' old site. The community building is neanng completion with tables and chairs due in today (Wednesday). And this says nothing of the new houses under construction in both Our Town and the surrounding area.
