1981 Flotilla a big success!
The 1961 Lake Wawasee Flotilla Committee was in complete agreement: this year’s Flotilla was a whopping success It was a success from every point of view in the type of day it turned out to be for the lake’s one big event, for the good number of entries in the various categories, and for the enthusiasm of all those who participated and those who lined the lake’s shoreline to witness the colorful event. The judges had their work cut out for them Os the 52 units that served to make up the Flotilla, the inventiveness and color of most of them caused judges Barbara Eastlund of North Webster. Tom Radar of Wakarusa and Jerry Banker of Anderson to sharpen their pencils in making final judgmental determinations Trophies were handed out in front of the old Wawasee Prep, with Flotilla Committee chairman Jerry Johnson announcing the winners, unanimous choices of the several judges The Big Winners The Commodores Trophy easily went to the Sea Nymph Boat Co with its imaginative float named Columbus To Columbia, highlighting the theme of this year’s Flotilla On the bow of the float was a small replica of one of Christopher Columbus’ tiny boats that crossed the Atlantic in 1492 to discover this new land we call America, but dominating the float was a rocket that depicted the recent flight of the famed Columbia that went into outer space and returned again. Paul Phi Ila ba urn, general manager of Sea Nymph.
These folks cared enough to make the 1981 Flotilla a huge success I WE

Syracuse revenue sharing monies for streets, water mains
By DEBFOX In a special meeting Tuesday evening concerning the spending of revenue sharing monies. Syracuse Town Board members voted to spend $6,000 on street equipment, SIO,OOO on street repairs; and $4,000 for water mains for hydrants. The total amount of revenue sharing money available is $20,288.46 and the town is expecting two additional draws on the money totaling $4,600 by the end of the year. Next year the town is expecting $19,000 to $20,000 in revenue sharing monies. The vote on the split was a 4-1 vote with Carl Myrick, board president, opposed to the money being set aside for water mains. He felt it would be a drop in the bucket and could be used for more street repairs. Joe Morganthaler, Steven Butt, Clifford Boyer and Bill Hess were in favor of the split. Hess, liaison officer to the street department, stated there was $42,000 available for street repairs and the bids totaled approximately $220,000. He also stated the department needed an additional snow blade, costing $3,000. a trailer for hauling the roller and tar kettle for patching streets, $1,700 and a new street sweeper. SIB,OOO to $20,000. Kip Schumm of the park board commented the school corporation donated an old fire department equipment truck to the park board and wondered if this could be used in hauling the mowers and stated there would be a possibility of working something out with the town. Hess stated it was a good idee, but felt a trailer was definitely
needed and could also be used in hauling equipment to be repaired. Boyer commented He did not go for the purchase of a trailer and would drag his feet on that. But he would go along with the other items. He stated that toooften the board will purchase items and then they are not used enough to pay for themselves. Hess suggested Boyer get with Joe Dock at the street department and have him explain how the trailer will be used. In other suggestions Kenny

Johnson, fire chief, requested the town update some of the fire hydrants in the area of Dolan Drive and Parkway., He added there are a number 6f hydrants involved there but he does not* have the monetary figures for the update. He also suggested North Harrison Street be looked at also.
