By TERRI CHILCOTE Bright colors, soft fabrics and the feminine as well as the tailored look seem to be this summer’s trend in women's sportwear fashions. One-piece swim suits are popular again this year New on the scene this year are longer shirts; however, short shorts still remain popular Big colors this year are purple, lavender, black and white "I think it’s gotten to the point that whatever you want you can find.’' commented Evon Foyle, sales clerk at Manse's Town and Lake Shop in Syracuse She said hem lengths vary this

year from mid-calf to just below the knee. She also noticed women are buying more dresses this year rather than pants. Although dresses tend to be more feminine, tailored skirts and blazers are also selling well, she said. Sundresses remain popular. In tops, tank tops with built-in bras and camisoles are selling well at Marises. Swim suits feature high cut legs which are becoming to women with large thighs According to Mrs Foyle and sales clerk Blanche Lindemuth. fabrics dominant this year are cottons, linens and stretch gabardine Marise s Town and Lake Shop
is owned by Marise Smith and 1 ' caters to women of all ages from the teenager to the more mature woman. The women's apparel store has also introduced a new line of children's clothing from toddlers to size 14. Phyllis Roberts, owner of Tom Socks Sportswear in Syracuse, feels people in the lake area buy more sportswear than dresses and her line of Hang Ten brand is very popular. She pointed out Tom Socks is a sportswear oriented store. She has noticed a wide variety of tailored as well as feminine apparel this summer. “Skirts and tops still popular; although, dresses are coming on stronger than a few years ago.” said Mrs Roberts She also agreed longer shorts are making a comeback; ‘although, short shorts are also popular One-piece swim suits remain popular. She said dresses are shorter this year with hem lines hitting right below the knee. Vivid colors are dominant with the Hang Ten line, but she has noticed other manufacturers are leaning more towards pastels. Purple and lavender are big colors this season Featured fabrics this summer are knits and soft crepes. Terry cloth is

waning in popularity. Fabrics that sell well at My Store, owned by Mim Speicher, in Syracuse are cotton knits, cotton blends, terry cloth, duck, stretch gabardine and gauzes. She also noted the silk-look is “in” and there is less interest in denim Bright colors and splashy prints are the dominant trend. “I think yellow is always the big all around color,” Mrs. Speicher stated. According to Mrs. Speicher, the airy and sheer look is fashionable this summer, whereas, the preppie and oxford look was popular earlier in the spring. She feels the feminine look is still the dominant trend. She noted a wide variety of patterns by Vogue. Butterick and McCalls which are the brands My Store carries. “Far and above, the biggest seller is the jumpsuit,” she pointed out. “Next would be the gauze blouses and wrap shorts ” Longer shorts seem to be coming back. J Fashion's fickle finger seems to be pointing to a consensus of bright colors, soft materials, one piece swim suits and longer shorts this season What will be next year’s look is as difficult to predict as the weather.

'Oklahoma' opens playhouse season
By BILL SPURGEON They're off to a roaring start for the 1981 season at Enchanted Hills Playhouse. “Oklahoma," the time-tested Rodgers and Kammerstein musical about life in the rural southwest around the turn of the century, opened to a full house last Wednesday, and tickets for the second and final week . beginning tonight will likely be deservedly scarce. Artistic director Jeffrey Koep and producing director Jill Stover have put together a good show, utilizing the singing, acting and dancing talents and technical ability of a number of well-picked young people. Our favorite in the cast was Donald Lee Hahn as Curly and not far behind was Myrona Lou Laws as Laurey, the winsome young lady whose attention he pursues. Darryl Maximilian Robinson was a convincing Ali Hakk'im in pursuit of either a few coins as a door-to-door peddler or a young lady's attention when he was not selling something Suzanne Freshley as Aunt Eller, Tom Lamb as Jud Fry, Randy Clinker as Will Parker and Dave Kiefer as Andrew Carnes also were well-cast as was Susan Sams as Ado Annie Carnes. The music and songs were treated tenderly when required and boisterously when appropriate, a tribute to Dr. Koep's fine-tuning; Douglas Bomberger as pianist-director of the pit

orchestra appropriately conducted the score to compliment, not compete with, the voices on stage. The dance routines and ballet also showed polish and talent, and the simple set by Tom Miller tastefully underlined the rustic bareness of the Oklahoma countryside in which the play is set. “Oklahoma" is one of those shows where a familiar plot and comfortable music make an audience feel at home, and on opening night, with a party in the lobby afterward for season ticket holders and other patrons, it was a happy homecoming indeed last week at the barn theater east of Lake Wawasee. If “Oklahoma” is a sample of the quality of production we can expect this year at Enchanted Hills, 1981 will be a good year for local summer theatergoers. “Oklahoma” continues tonight through Sunday. Some tickets may be available. “Oliver" opens for a two-week run July 1. Koontz operating concession stand The Syracuse Concession Stand, located on the edge of the Syracuse Public Park and Beach property, W. E. Long Drive, now offers more products for sale than before. Available items include: Dairy Queen products such as Dilly Bars, ice cream sandwiches and flavored sundae cups; Pepsi oroducts; a variety of candy bars; Seifert’s snack items such as potato chips; cigarettes; and sun care products PJ's Pizza, from the Wawasee Village will also have some of their submarine sandwich line foods available. “We’re trying to get an ice machine for there, so bagged ice is available,” explained concession stand manager Harry Koontz. The idea for a varied concession stand began when Syracuse Park Board member Kip Schumm asked if the DairyQueen was interested in servicing the Syracuse community at the stand, according to Koontz.
