Host US Kids at Wawasee Sixteen area boys competed in the US Kids Great Lakes Wrestling regional held at Wawasee High School Friday and Saturday. May 22 and 23. Boys participated in the Warrior Wrestling Club hosted event from the states of Indiana. Illinois. Kentucky. Ohio and Michigan. Local winners included: Champions. Dan O’Haver, 11Q pounds. MO years old; and Brad Traviolia, 90 pounds, 13-14 years old; runner-up Jeff Welborn, 75 pounds. 11-12 years old; third place Doug Gerstner, 75 pounds. 13-14 years old; and fourth place Lance Lantz. 130 pounds. 11-12 years old. „ Other area boys competing in the event were Josh Brad Gerstner. Three from Wawasee to state track finals

Lonnie Black. Don Roulo and Link Perkins. Wawasee High School track have advanced to the state finals in the field competition Friday. May 29. and Saturday. May 30. at Indianapolis North Central Black placed third in the discus breaking the school record with a throw of 115 feet. 10 inches Roulo placed third in the discus in the boys’ regional with a throw of 149 feet, three inches. Perkins was fourth in the long jump with a jump of 21 feet, three inches Other results for the boystrack team include. Roulo, sixth in shot put. feet in the pole vault; Shad Hunter ran the 200 meter in 23.4 and 23.3 to receive fifth place in the trial a events; and the 400 meter relay team placed seventh with a time of 44.8. Other results for the girls track team include. Susan Geyer seventh in the low hurdles and her time tied the school record; Tonda Yeager, broke the school record in the 800 meter dash at 2.27.2 but did not make the state finals and the 1,600 meter relayteam finished seventh. The girls’ state finals will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Indianapolis North Central and the boys' state finals will begin at 5 p.m Saturday.

Junior varsity members are Sophomore Angie Meek and Freshmen Jamie Gooding, Heather Jordan, Kristi Rockenbaugh and Liz Waltz. Try-out results were based on three categories: 10 per cent evaluation. 40 per cent screening board and 50 per cent student body vote.
