ANOTHER KVRT THOMAS? — Gregg Gant, a junior at Wawasee High School, is the first boy ever at Wawasee High School to compete in gymnastics events. Gant placed 11th out of 30 male competitors at the sectional tournament for boy's’ gymnastics held at Elkhart Memorial High School recently. He competed in floor exercises. Gant, who is coached and trained by the Elkhart YMCA, has spent one year in the gymnastics competition and has competed on several occasions in meets at North Wood High School. He remarked he became interested in gymnastics when he watched it on television and when he dated a girl on the «irb* gymnastics team his sophomore year. He mentioned other guys in the high school do not hassle him because of the sport he’s in. in fact * some of the gays in the school have told him it’s unbelieveable what he does in the tumbling exercises. ‘Tve never had any negative remarks.” commented Gant. He has hopes that next year Wawasee High School wiU have a boys’ gymnastics team and there are some guys interested in gymnastics and taking lessons. However, Carl Meditch, athletic director, stated there are a lot of question marks about a boys’ gymnastics team. Oq the left Gant is doing the V-Seat while on the right he is doing the splits. Both of these are sometimes used in floor exercises. (Photo by Deb Fox) ..
