••A" LEAGUE SCORING CHAMP — Jeff Johnson has been named the “A” league scoring champhn of the adult basketball league at Wawasee High School. Johnson, who played for Farm Bureau, scored 337 points during the league season. His average is 24 points per game. His team was defeated Monday evening. Feb. 23. by Quackers Lounge 87-M in overtime, eliminating them from die championship game.

Wrestlers, swimmers receive awards Tuesday
By DEB FOX Wrestlers and swimmers at Wawasee High School received recognition and awards Tuesday evening, Feb. 24, during an awards program for those two sports. Kevin Walker and Gary Gerencser were the two award winners for the wrestling team with Walker receiving the captain’s award and Gerencser receiving the most valuable wrestler and most pins award. In swimming, Kent Butcher, Tony Boyer, Troy Webb and Greg Day were the winners. Butcher received the most valuable swimmer award; Boyer, most improved; Webb, most points; and Day, coach’s award for 110 per cent effort. Also receiving awards were wrestling coaches Richard Welborn and Dave Baumgartner; swimming coach Tim Caldwell and wrestling club president, Stuart Walker, for their support and gratitude from their specific teams. Wawasee swim club outscores Peru YMCA
By KIRK HUGHES The Wawasee Swim Club took it’s team, talents and spirit to Peru on February 21 to swim against the Peril YMCA team. Wawasee was determined to win after a tough loss to Concord two weeks ago. With a full team of determined swimmers, they let Peru know that they were out to win, and they won as they swam past the YMCA team to outscore Peru 327 to 113. The Wawasee Club now has a 1I record and is looking forward to its next meet at the Wawasee High School pool on March 7. With additional swimmers and more spirit, the team is looking forward to an outstanding season. Ribbon winners for Wawasee against Peru were: Koser, Hurd, Crum and Neff, first, at Boys’ 910 80 medley relay, Hoene, Weaver, Titus and Neff placed first in girls’ 9-10 80 medley relay; O’Haver, Keim, Dixon and Fryback won first in boys’ 11-12 160 medley relay; Weaver, Berkey, Baumgartner and Eldridge won first in girls’ 11-12 medley relay; Reed. Boyer. Boyer and Cox placed first in boys’ 13 and up 160 medley relay; Hurd, Hurd. Berkey and Lewellan won first in girls’ 13 and up 16 medley relay. Other winners included. officials and the wrestlers. Coach Welborn introduced his assistant coach, Baumgartner. Baumgartner presented certificates to the freshman and. junior varsity wrestlers who were. Ron DeSomer. Ron Martin. Juan Roa, Mark Curry, and Mike Cavendar. The freshman team was undefeated, 7-0, while the junior varsity posted a record of 7-2. The varsity wrestlers who received certificates and other awards were: Jeff Carden, letter and chevron; Gerencser, letter and jacket; David Melendez, letter and chevron; Walker, letter, chevron; and Ken Long, letter and chevron. Also recognized along with the wrestlers were the Mat Maids. Those girls received certificates and inc hide: Julie Gilson, Gail Napier, Kelly Rockenbaugh. He added this was an accomplishment when the other schools had twice the size of WHS squad and larger schools. Caldwell remarked three school records were broken, the 200-and-500-yard free style by Andy Wysong and 100-yard free style by Troy Webb. A pool record was broken at Concord High School There was one conference champion in diving from the team, Greg Day. Caldwell acknowledged the help he received from Rex Rymers with the diving team. . Those freshman swimmers recognized all received certificates and numerals Those swimmers are: Dan Enright, Bob Galloway, Brett Hite, Brad Overmyer, Benj Reed and Phil Zachary. Reed only received a certificate. Those sophomores receiving certificates and other awards included. Tony Boyer, chevron; Tim Crum, chevron and jacket; Greg Day. chevron; Bill Dixon, Ken Homing, numeral; Bob Mansfield; Sean Shanahan, chevron and letter; and .Andy Wysong, jacket. Juniors receiving certificates and other awards were : Marshall Boyer, captain's star; Kent Butcher, chevron, captain's star and jacket; Tim Cox. letter, chevron; and Don Greene, chevron. There were only three seniors on the team who received certificates and chevrons. Those seniors are: Mark Crum, John Grotz and Troy Webb Webb also received a jacket. Team managers recognized included, Michele Berkey. Cindy Myrick. Sherri Smith and Lori Stahley. All managers received a certificate. Myrick received a chevron and Smith received a chevron and jacket.

Bear Run Archery Club holds double shoot
Bear Run Archery Club, located on US 6 just east of State Road 13. held a double shoot Saturday, Feb. 21. The club has three divisions for adults and two for children. Adult divisions include, instinctive, sights (fixed pins) and open (moveable sights, etc.).
