Warriors give fans a scare against Chargers
By SHARON STUCKMAN Wawasee never trailed when they played host to West Noble on Friday. However, fans had cause to worry as their 16-point lead at the half dwindled to two in the fourth quarter before they pulled out the7B-75 victory. Todd Davis scored the first four points for the Warriors, answered by Brown, with a basket for the Chargers. Troup hit, Geiger scored two and Davis scored again. John Locke made it 12-2. Mey of West Noble scored twice and cut the lead to six. A nice shot by Troup and two free throws by Schermerhorn kept it at a sixpoint difference. Wawasee got the ball and scored but Schermerhorn kept the Chargers going with another basket. Geiger missed and Schermerhorn hit

again. Long hit a nice layup and a determined Schermerhorn scored again. Troup scored on a driving layup, an offensive foul gave Wawawee back the ball, Locke scored, was fouled and hit the free throw. Locke was fouled again, hit two, Geiger was fouled and hit two. At the end of the first quarter Wawasee led 27-13. West Noble got the second quarter tip, but Davis got the ball back and Geiger scored. A nice shot by Durham, a long jump shot by Troup, Hall hit, Wawasee missed and Brown scored. Wawasee worked a nice play to Davis, he scored and Wawasee led 33-19. Troup stole the ball and passed to Locke, who scored. Mey scored, Locke hit, Durham hit one free throw and Paulus ran under to score. Locke stole the ball, passed to Long, he was fouled and scored two free throws. Brown scored on a rebound shot. Long scored again but fouled Durham, who hit two. Paulus couldn't hit but Geiger made a nice defensive effort, rebounded and scored. Davis fouled Moore, he hit two, Long traveled and Mey scored. Wawasee couldn’t hit, but Davis was fouled on the rebound, hit one and Wawasee led 46-30. Durham fouled Locke away from the ball, he missed the free throw, but Long rebounded and scored. Moore scored two from the line when he was fouled by Long. At halftime Wawasee led 48-32. The third quarter tip was controlled by Wawasee, but Geiger missed and Schermerhorn hit. Locke missed. Mey hit and Troup scored on a long shot. Brown worked for a score, Troup scored again and Durham's jump shot fell through. West Noble got the ball back, Schermerhorn missed, but Mey rebounded and scored to cut the lead back to ten. Geiger scored on a beautiful jump shot but then Schermerhorn scored on a long shot. A nice pass to Davis underneath, and he made it 56-44. Durham scored on a long shot, Wawasee missed and Schermerhorn cut the lead to eight. Koble passed to Geiger and he scored. At the end of the third quarter Wawasee led 58-48. The Chargers had gained six points in the third quarter. Koble got the first score of the fourth quarter, a nice by Durham and Geiger hit. Mey scored, Troup missed, Durham was fouled as he shot and scored three for West Noble. Koble tipped in a missed shot and Wawasee led by nine, but Schermerhorn cut it to seven. Long missed, Kleinrichert missed and Mey cut the lead to Warriors defeat Bremen in JV action, 37-35 At Wawasee Friday the Bremen Junior Varsity pulled close in the fourth quarter after being down by seven at halftime. In the third quarter Wawasee stayed with the Lions Four points by Spunar, four by Thom and two by Smith made it 28-21 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Warriors made some turnovers on bad passes and traveling. Bremen came within one, got the ball, but missed. Thom came out with the crucial rebound and Walles scored on a free throw Wawasee won 37-35.

Troup was fouled, hit two. West Noble missed and Brown fouled Troup who hit two more. A long shot by Schermerhorn made the lead only four with 34 seconds left.
