IB YEARS AGO, JAN. 6, 1971 The Pickwick Block, located in uptown Syracuse, was taken last Friday, New Year's Day, in the early hours of the fire that swept the popular business block, totally destroying the Pickwick Inn. the building occupied by Budget Investments. Inc., and the W. R. Thomas Variety Store Announcement was forthcoming this week that the block would be rebuilt Jesse Botts of Millersburg, father of Mrs. Eugene Brown of Syracuse, celebrated his 90th birthday anniversary on Tuesday. The meeting was held at the home of Ronald Kramer, who is representative for the Business and Professional Women’s Club. The Town Board of Syracuse, at its last meeting in December, accepted a proposed bid by the S & M Motor Co., for a new Chevrolet automobile to be used by the local police department. The bid was S9OO. with the 1947 Hudson now in use traded in. The city does not pay any state or federal taxes on purchase of an automobile. The Syracuse and Wawasee community has been chosen as a site for a new factory building, by the Weatherhead Company of Cleveland. Ohio. The proposed building will be 200 feet by 305 feet, one story, and probably will be located on the W. A. Jones farm, just off the road running west past the former Liberty Coach company factory. Mrs. Crabtree was slowing down to make a right turn onto Section Street when her auto was hit from behind Hansen was cited for following too closely. Franklin is a native of New Haven, Conn., and a Duke University graduate with an MBA degree from the University of Rhode Island. He joined Dana in 1975 as a management trainee at the Edgerton, Wise., axle plant and in 1976 became V-Drive project manager at Edgerton. In 1977, Franklin was transferred to Dana’s corporate offices in Toledo, Ohio, to assume the administrative manager position. He served in that capacity until December 1978 when he was named resident manager of Dana’s Garrison Hydraulics plant in Santa Ana. Calif. When the Garrison operation was renamed Spicer Steering Gear in April 1979, Franklin continued as resident manager and remained in that position until his present assignment Charles R. “Chuck” Jones was named vice president of engineering for the Spicer Transmission Division of Dana Corporation. A native of Toledo Ohio, he received his bachelor s and master’s* engineering degrees from the University of Toledo Jones joined Dana in 1961 as a test engineer and became a project engineer for the Transmission- and Gear Division in

1963. He later became project engineer, transmission development and in 1967 was named chief engineer, torque converters for the T & G Division and held that position until his current promotion. Jones is a Society of Automotive Engineers member and is presently chairman of the Buckendale committee of S. A.E. Richard W. Confer was appointed controller of the Spicer Universal Joint Division of Dana Corporation. Confer is a Cleveland, Ohio, native and a graduate of Ohio University with a business administration degree. Confer joined Weatherhead Company in 1973 as assistant treasurer and was named controller in 1975. In 1977 he was elected Weatherhead treasurer and following Dana's acquisition of Weatherhead that same year, continued to serve as controller and treasurer In September of 1978 he was transferred to Toledo. Ohio, as controller of Dana Industrial. He served in that position until his most recent promotion. Confer is a member of the Financial Executive Institute, The Cleveland Treasurers’ Club and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
