During that time he attended college and . upon graduation moved to Mount Sterling, Ky., where he pastured the Grassy Lick United Methodist Church for three years and studied at Asbury Seminary, Wilmot, Ky. Nazarene. He replaced Rev. Norman Lincoln on September 14. Pastor Barton, who is 46, stated he is taking a home study course through the church and recently accepted the call to preach. He was active in the Warsaw Church of the Nazarene .where he worked with the pastor, attended training seminars in the district and was Sunday school superintendent along with other positions in the church that helped him become a minister. Barton grew up in the WarsawNorth Manchester area and graduated from North Manchester High School. He was owner and operator of Harold’s Garage in Warsaw for eight years and served in the Army and Au Force. * His wife, Beverly, is a housewife and his daughter, Brenda, currently lives at home. Since September the church has doubled in attendance and by October the church membership became self-sufficient. Previously the church was being helped financially by the district. Several projects started by Pastor Barton is the fixing up of the old building. Several projects have been started to date. Pastor Barton stated that the Syracuse Community is spread out quite a bit and it is still hard for him to get in his mind where things are at. “There is good potential. I’m going to take advantage of it and I’m pleased with the situation. I kind of like it here.”

travel, education, recreation and a myriad of other temporal pursuits. The best description of the happy life is found in the Sermon on the Mount, recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, chapters five, six and seven. In this, timeless message, Jesus Christ dispels the notion that happiness depends on the possession of money and material things; the absence of disappointment, sorrow and pain; or the attainment of influence and prestige. Happiness, instead, is presented as a condition of the heart, regardless of external conditions. What is the key to the happy life? Jesus Christ in the heart. The Psalmist put in this way, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” And in the words of the little girl who paraphrase;, the Psalmist. “The Lord is my shepherd, that is all I want. ’ ’ This is happiness and contentment in its purest form. Happy New Year!

Her major was in education and has been teaching 25 years Presently she is teaching in the Westview School Corporation as a second grade teacher at Shipshewana The Greenwoods have a 23-year-dd daughter, Janice, who is a graduate of Indiana University and is currently in nurses training at South Bend Memorial Hospital. Miss Greenwood has one year left before receiving her registered nurse’s degree. Rev. NEW PASTOR AT UNITED METHODIST —Rev. Kenneth Greenwood, his wife. Sara, and their daughter. Janice, have moved into the Milford community. Rev. Greenwood is the pastor of Milford United Methodist Church and started his pastorship here in November. His wife is an elementary teacher in Shipshewana and their daughter is working towards her registered nurse degree at South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Area churches usher in the New Year

There will be a numter of New Year Eve watch night services in the Lakeland area along with several New Year's Day services. Below is a list of those services in area churches. Syracuse x ~~ Grace Bible Church will have a service on New Year's Eve and Saint Martin dePorres Catholic Church will have masses on New Year’s Day. There are also several activities planned at the Catholic church on New Year's Eve. At 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Syracuse United Pentecostal Church will have a watch night service and from 9-12 p.m.. Wawasee Heights Baptist Church will have a watch night, service also “Sounds of the Trumpet” will be shown at Wawasee Heights beginning at 9 p.m. with food, fellowship and a communion service following. Syracuse Church of the Brethren will be having a watch night service from 8-9 p.m. on New Year's Eve. Milford New Salem Church' of the Brethren will hold a sausage and pancake supper on New Year’s Eve starting at 6:30 p.m. Following the supper there will be a film, “Billy Sunday,” shown

Grace Brethren will hold a New Year’s Eve watch service starting at 8:30 p.m. with the movie “Where Eagles Fly.” From 10-11 p.rm those attending will have a fellowship time. The watch service will begin at 11:10 p.m. North Webster The North Webster. Church of God will hold a Quaker-like service on New Year's Eve at 7 p.m. Sunday school classes will attend class parties in various homes, following the service.
