Both teams hit a cold shooting streak. Spunar finally scor<»d for Wawasee after making two rebounds. Carpenter missed, * Spunar rebounded and Stichter was fouled. Both free throws were good, making the score 25-20. Koontz put Triton back within three with a layup. Triton got the ball out of bounds, but Locke stole the ball and scored. The ball was knocked loose into the hands of Long. Long passed to Locke who was fouled and scored one. Spunar blocked a shot attempt by Deaton. Stichter threw a long pass to Locke who made an easy layup. Howard hit a long shot just as time ran out in the first half. Wawasee lead at halftime 30-24. Long made the first score of the third quarter on a jump shot. Runnels passed to Deaton who missed, Stichter rebounded and Locke scored. Carpenter missed' but Koontz rebounded and made the first points for Triton in the second half. Carpenter stole the ball and scored. Qeiger and Troup both missed and Koontz scored on a pass from Runnels. Long was open underneath and hit. Carpenter put the Trojans back within four, but Long’s jump shot stretched the Warrior lead. The Trojans worked to get the ball to Deaton and he made the score 38-34. Carpenter got hold of the ball on a pass from

Geiger. He didi’t score, but Allan Ross rebounded and put Triton within two. With 1:13 left in the third quarter Triton had a chance to tie the game when Troup was called for traveling, but Koontz missed. Geiger rebounded and was fouled. Long was underneath for another layup. Koontz put Triton back within two but Long quickly gave Wawasee two more. Runnels missed a long shot but Carpenter scored on his own rebound. At the end of the third quarter Wawasee was ahead by only two. Long got a quick basket at the beginning of the last quarter. Deaton committed an offensive foul and Long hit again on a jump shot. Kelly Howard hit a long shot and the score was 46-42. Stichter’s shot was blocked, but Long was fouled by Howard on the rebound and hit one. Another Howard long shot cut the Warrior lead back to three. Long scored again on a jump shot, Stichter stole the ball and passed to Troup who made another quick basket for Wawasee. Again, Howard hit from outside. Long was fouled by Brett Welty and went to the foul line but a call by the referee, possible that his foot had been over the line, gave Triton back the ball before he could shoot. Carpenter brought Triton back within three, but Troup was fouled by Runnels and made two good free throws. Long stole the ball with 48 seconds left. Locke was fouled and hit one Howard Trojanettes defeat Syracuse Yellow Jackets The North Webster Trojanettes defeated the Syracuse Yellow Jackets in two games Tuesday, Dec. 9, at North Webster Junior High. The North Webster seventh grade won in a score of 25 to 17. High point girl for the Trojanettes was Michelle Harter with nine points. North Webster Also placed with a balanced scoring attack with Wendy Hite, Any Klein and Shelly Martindale each having four points. Harter led North Webster in rebound with five. Syracuse was led in scoring by L. Simms and B. Welty with six points each. North Webster seventh grade record is two in one. North Webster eighth grade avenged an earlier loss to Syracuse by defeating them 1512. Sandy Payne ted the Trojanettes scoring wi’Ji eight points. Anita Swope shaied eight rebounds and Summer Bright had four steals to her credit. Sheila Kleinrichter, Syracuse, paced Syracuse in scoring with eight points. Both Syracise and North Webster eighth grate girls have a one in two record.

Two games at WHS this week Two basketball games will be played at Wawasee High School this week. On Friday the Warriors will host arch rival Warsaw and on Saturday they wilX host the Eagles from Columbia City. Doors for both games will open at 5:45 p.m. with the junior varsity game at 6:15 and the varsity game at 8 p.m. A pre-sale of student tickets will be held in the athletic office on Friday. Tickets are $1 for each game. All tickets at the door will be $2. Buses will leave Milford and North Webster at 6 p.m. each night. Students should pay the driver 50 cents upon boarding.

Scott Coffin gets 5-second pin

By SHARON STUCKMAN Not only was the meet against Manchester an outstanding victory for the wrestling team, but Wawasee Senior Scott Coffin got what could be a state record when he pinned Jay Bradley in five seconds. Wawasee won by a score of 5414. GIRLS TO PLAY ATTOPEKA The next game for the Wawasee girls’ basketball team will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20. The Warriorettes, now 6-3, will meet Westview in the Topeka Elementary School gym.

Another overtime for Warrior girls

By SHARON STVCKMAN At Wawasee Monday evening the girls’ basketball team lost to Elkhart Central in overtime. The girls played well but just seemed to run out of baskets at the end. When buzzer sounded at the end of the first quarter the score was tied 2-2. As the buzzer rang a technical foul was called on the Blazer bench and Tona Sellers hit two free throws to put Wawasee ahead 4-2. Dihan Stieglitz hit the only Warrior field goal in the first quarter and Laura Shurwonn made the only score for the Blazers. Laura Stahl tied the score with the first field goal of the second quarter. Lee Schacht was fouled by Shurwonn and hit pne. Maude Packer tied the ball up, got the tip and scored. „ Grace Stichter scored on a rebound. Elsie Armstrong put the Blazers back within two with a field goal and free throw. Schacht made the score 11-7 when she was fouled by Lisa Murphy. Zimmerman scored one for the Blazers when she was fouled by Packer. Stichter passed to Black who scored. Armstrong rebounded when Zimmerman missed and scored. Schacht put Wawasee ahead by five with a field goal. Shurwonn scored two for Elkhart, Wawasee turned the ball over and Packer fouled Wendy Kirch who hit two. Schacht was fouled by Lisa Murphy and she hit two, making the score 17-14. Shurwonn put Elkhart back within one, Kathy Davis was fouled and tied the score. Bryant missed, Packer rebounded and Lee Schacht was fouled. Schacht hit only one. A long shot by Armstrong of Elkhart made the score. 26-18 at the half. Myra Ruch got the first basket of the third quarter. Stahl put Elkhart back within two, hitting another long shot. Black hit a layup but Bussee was fouled by Grace Stichter and scored two. Schacht’s pass was caught by Murphy and Laura Stahl scored for Elkhart, "Die score was tied at 24. Stichter found Black open underneath and Black scored. Stahl missed, Ruch rebounded and Shurwonn fouled Schacht. Two good free throws made the score 28-24. Wawasee got the tip

but Murphy stole the ball and made a layup. Stichter got a three point play when she was fouled .by Armstrong. Schacht stole the ball and scored. Elise Armstrong made a quick layup for the Blazers. Schacht made the final two points of the third quarter. The Warriors led 35-28 at the end of the third qaurter. Elkhart Central scored eight points and took the lead before Wawasee could score in the fourth quarter. With I:|2 left Wawasee led by two but two foul shots by the Blazers tied the score. Elkhart scored sikteen points in the fourth quarter and Wawasee only nine. At the end of regulation time the score was tied at 44. Elkhart got an early lead in the overtime when they scored four points on free throws and Brenda Bussee stole the ball and hit a field goal. Maude Packer got the only score of the overtime for Wawasee when she was fouled by Shurwonn and hit two. Shurwonn got the last four points of the game. Elkhart Central won 53-46. JV Victorious The junior varsity team defeated Elkhart Central by a score of 28-17. They led 8-6 at the end of the first quarter. Lisa Foltz, Linda Kilburg and Lori Rick made field goals for the Blazers' in the second quarter The Warriors also scored six in the second 'quarter with two baskets by Eastlund and one by Rosalie Rouch. The Warriors led 14-6 at the half. Rosalie Rouch got the first score of the third quarter, Elkhart traveled and Eastlund scored. Sharon Bohnstedt stole the ball. Dawn Baker scored and Wawasee led 26-8. Bohnstedt got a long shot and then Foltz scored for Elkhart. Dawn Young made the score 24-10. Kilburg of Elkhart got the last basket of the third quarter. Elkhart scored three points on free throws in the fourth quarter and Kilburg hit a field goal. Sorensen and Eastlund each had a basket for Wawasee, the only Warrior scores in the final period. « The girls have only one more game before the Christmas holiday, Saturday at Topeka Elementary School at 1 p.m.
