10 YEARS AGO, NOV. 25.1970 Parsonage and church property mortgage burning ceremonies were held Sunday afternoon at the Syracuse Church of the Brethren in connection with a dedication program for the recent building program completed to provide more auditorium and Sunday school classroom space Mrs. Bette Schlotterback of Syracuse has purchased the west Main St. duplex from Everett Ketering. Mr. and Mrs Lyle Seiffert of Lake Wawasee and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Henning and family of Syracuse left this morning (Wednesday) for Shorewood. Wise., to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with their daughter and sister and.family, the Louis Siris. David Wickstrom, son of Rev. and Mrs. Loyd Wickstrom, of Syracuse, has been selected for the honor of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities Dave is one of seven seniors at Grace College, Winona Lake, who has been chosen to this honor for the 1970-71 school year. Paul and Lorraine Weise of Lake Wawasee are the possessors of a souvenir edition of the Syracuse and Wawasee Lake Journal dated June 24, 1916 This issue was found in the bottom of an old barrel full of dishes purchased at a public auction a number of years ago at the Sargeant Hotel which was located on the north side of Lake Wawasee. 20 YEARS AGO. NOV. 22. 1960 The Hi-Neighbor’s Home Ec Club met, Thursday afternoon with Mrs Robert Bowser, with 11 members, one guest and one child present. news of social events and personal items. Mr. and Mrs. Feri Rhoades entertained 37 members of the E.U.B. Questor s class Saturday night at a carry-in dinner with turkey and all the trimmings. Mrs. James Riley, Jdftior Red Cross chairman for the Kosciusko county Chapter, spent Wednesday at the Syracuse elementary school last week to launch the enrollment program which will be in progress throughout the nation for the next few weeks. Jim Searfoss arrived Sunday in Pasadena, California, where he will spend several months with his nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ed Searfoss. Mrs. Cloe Hire will be in Elkhart for Thanksgiving with her son, Hubert, and family. 30 YEARS AGO, NOV. 24.1950 Next Saturday. Nov. 25. Kie Musselman will stage a grand opening of his Pure Oil Station here on south Huntington Street. Kie has been in charge for a month of course, and the station has been very much “open” but on Saturday he will have several valuable free gifts and a “special” every motorist can use. Mr. and Mrs. James Butt announce in this paper that the. expect to sell out their entire stock of children’s clothing and go out of business before Jan. Ist. The Tot Shop has a most complete line for the smaller children and they are offering many bargains which cannot be duplicated anywhere else. James Bender, local agent for the Phoenix Mutual Insurance company, won first prize in a national contest for the month of October staged by his company. The prize included a free trip for himself and Mrs. Bender to Banff, Canada and on to California. They will make the
trip sometime next summer. 50 YEARS AGO, NOV. 2«. 1930 Fire about 4:30 Monday morning entirely destroyed the old cottage of the George Meynert estate, in Addmore Park, on Syracuse lake. Mrs. George Meynert lives in Goshen. Rev. W. G. Arbaugh addressed the High School chapel last Thursday morning A very interesting talk was given on the customs and religions of the Puerto Ricans. Rev. Arbaugh has spent several years in Puerto Rico and told of the things that he had learned from personal experience.
