FFA leaders address Lakeland Kiwanis Club
Representatives of the Wawasee Chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) presented a program for the Lakeland Kiwanis Club of North Webster Monday morning, Nov, 17. Brian Roberts, FFA president; Tim Butt, vice president; and FFA Advisor Randy Warren, agriculture instructor at Wawasee High School, addressed the Kiwanians. Warren explained 100 students are enrolled in agriculture courses at Wawasee High School. The local FFA club presently has a membership of 48 students. The student officers pointed out the Wawasee FFA won first place in soil judging in the recent semistate contest and third in the national contest in horticulture. The club has also participated in dairy judging in FFA contests. The Wawasee club takes part in their own com plots and a slave auction to raise funds for their activities. Representatives from the Wawasee FFA attended the Washington Conference Program for farm youth which is held each summer. At this conference, the club members attended workshops designed to help them

Syracuse man hits deer on SR 13 Walter L. Felts, 28, 630 East Pittsburg Street, Syracuse, hit a doe Sunday, Nov. 23. Felts told Syracuse police he was traveling south on SR 13 when a deer ran across the road.
