Christmas mailing tips given by A. J. Rudasics
With the Christmas mailing season just ahead. Syracuse Postmaster Anthony J. Rudasics is offering customer tips to make sure cards and packages arrive on time and in good shape to their destinations. In addition to shopping early. Postmaster Rudasics urges customers to properly address cards and packages with the * name, street number and street name, or post office box number and the city, state and ZIP code reserved for the last line. It’s also a good idea to place a paper slip with the recipient's and sender's name and address inside the parcels. Return addresses should also be used on all mailings. Mrs. Weybright elected as fair representative * Margaret Weybright, Syracuse, was recently announced as the new Elkhart County fairboard representative. The 4-H adult leader officers were elected in conjunction with the annual adult leaders recognition banquet sponsored by the Elkhart Farm Bureau The officers are responsible for planning and conducting the bimonthly 4-H Adult Leader meetings. They also coordinate leader training sessions for both new and experienced leaders.
Customers are reminded to check envelope sizes before mailing Christmas cards. Letter size standards, going into affect last year, require envelopes to be at least 3*2 inches high and 5 inches long to be accepted for mailing. The Postal Service is also asking customers to put an ounce of extra care into preparing packages for mailing. Parcels will arrive at their destination if mailers remember a few By ROSALYN JONES Our current display from the Syracuse-Wawasee Garden Club features colorful yellow and gold straw flowers in a ceramic cornucopia, a very appropriate decoration for Thanksgiving. guidelines. | Parcel contents should be wellcushioned without empty box space. Crumpled newspaper around the item, on the bottom, sides and top is a good packaging method. Foamed plastic shells and air pocket padding are also good. Brown paper wrapping and twine cord are unnecessary and can get caught in processing machinery. Instead, use sealing tape to close off and seal the box. Three recommended tape types are: Pressure-sensitive; Kraft paper reinforced with nylon; or glass and filament-preinforced pressure-sensitive tape. Cellophane and masking tape should not be used and are no longer recommemded because of past poor performance. When addressing packages and letters, use a smudge-proof ink. All previous labels or addresses should be removed from the carton too. Everyone should mail early and avoid the rush, remembering to send all irreplaceable articles and cash registered mail.
